Hi all

will be going down to Plett in December and was hoping someone could recommend a spot to try some dropshot?

The river mouth of lookout looks like it could have some potential? Has anyone tried it?

Thanks

Theese are just the places that i have tryed the most.

You can try lookout mouth last december i got a few smallish kob there on 2inch gulp shrimps in natural and a monster striepie of 900grams on a camo worm i also caught a few elf there on 5inch pearlwatermelon jerkshads and lost a fair size leervis also on 5inch pearl watermelon but when i was there in july it did not look to good as it got a lot shallower (all this infront of the resturant on those rocks) Then also the blacktail etc

also try B.I. rocks you will loose a LOT of tackle but you do get a few smallish blacktail and sand steenbras streepie and all those type of fish You should also get a lot of elf but if the elf are there YOU WILL go throu way to many bags of soft plastics to make it worth it when the elf arive i change 6to a spoon or drift bait. Sometimes people also get makerel not very often thou but ive had it happen once and some times also maasbunker but also not often I have also seen a few leervis come out here but only a handful of times (this is on the grass side of the hotel).

on the other side of the hotel expect the same exept ive never heard of makerel that side or leervis (You could well get them but i havent seen or heard of it that side)

Im also going to be there in Dec so PM me your number and i will call you closer to the time.

If there is anything else that i can help you with just let me know.

Hi Guys

the mouth area of keurbooms is excellent for grunter, elf, kob and leeries especially at low or when the tide is turning but have caught all species on different tides. way down the bitou, on the wittedrift road, is excellent for springer when tide is pushing. keurbooms and Nature's Valley rocks and gullies for all the rock species, far more specimens than the Bi area and the water works well. the grunter that you catch in the lagoon on dropshot seem to be much larger than those that are caught on bait. I use a sand coloured lug worm (looks like very small bloodworm type thinky) on a 1/0 and they love it. the area around goose valley is probably the best area as long as there is no weed because you have to retrieve the sandworm so slowly along the bottom, that is why I normally fish the mouth area and it is more convenient. the cammo worm for the rocks and for the leeries, springer and kob you can try out jerk shads, minnows etc etc. I still find a small popper works best for the leeries so take one with. there are tons of smoothound sharks in the lagoon in summer, some over 20 kgs. I havent caught any on dropshot but plenty on bait but if you see them, you might have the best fun ever if you can get them to take dropshot...and I dont see why they wouldn't.

When fishing in the mouth, which side do you fish from? Lookout beach side or Keurbooms side?

carried on from 2nd post...

Lures that i found to work Were the storm madflash thunderstick unfortunantly i only got five casts with the white one of those five casts first cast nice elf of 35cm

Second cast a piggie of the same size of the lure hooked in the mouth ( didnt know they took lures well?)

Third cast another elf of around 35cm

forth cast another piggie also hooked in the mouth

fifth cast a very nice take screams of line probably 50 or 60 meters and then bites me off throu 0.70 line can only think that it was a monster elf very very bleak!

here is a picture of the lure. and the best colour is white!!!

Other lures that i really like is the kingfisher 2V and here is a pic.

what i like the most is to cast and let it sink to how ever deep i want and it has an amazing actoin while sinker by the way

then give it small jerks like a zara spook but underwater or hard jerk wind up slack then repeat until almost in then i wind very fast so that i dont get stuck on the rocks

i find that those work best or a slowish retrieve also works well but the first to are my favorite.

It should for cob but I have only fished it around rocks and only for elf so I havent tried it yet but cant see why it wouldnt work.

But if you want a lure for along the bottom good lures are

aruku shad I habent personally tried this yet but apparently they are amazing I have however used them in freshwater and they have an amazing action and run nose down and bonce off of the bottom and look great this december when i go to plett im definantly going to have a good few of theese with me. colours that look good is the red head, clear chatruse and the purple one.

here is a pic of the red head:

Then a v-back spoon called CID Iron candy S/V . I got mine from basil manning but im sur you can get them from other places. Colours that work well are Glow, pearl, red head, chrome, chatruse, hot orange and sardine the best wieght for them is most probably either 15 gram for elf near the surface or the 45 gram on the bottom for cob in the estury or elf near the surface or even leervis or the 85 gram again for cob on the bottom or elf or leervis near the surface or even the 130 gram for cob in the surf.

here is a picture of the S/V in Hot Orange:

Then you can also use a havoc crank bait or a rapala or anything like that along the bottom for cob.

hope that helps
