Penn 500 Jigmaster

Hey Strepie, i would agree with Reefer, nothing more than R200 rand, and insist on a full spool of line, and also make sure it has an aluminium spool, cos these reels have a tendency for the spool to collapse under pressure if the spool is made of a composite graphite.

Just to give u an idea, i paid R450 for a 14ft Blue Marlin composite graphite rod and a Penn 500, with 2 extra spools with full line, both aluminium... and that was 5 years ago...

So i'll stick with R150/R175.... but anything between R150 - R200, both of you are winners...

Let us know what u eventually get it for...

Best of Luck

Brendon,
Unless you`re very good with baitcasters those 49`s are real bitches to cast. Need a real tough thumb to stop the spool when you`re heading for an overwind. Will kill your arms when casting all day long and damn heavy to hold.

Strepie, sorry bru, we hijacked your whole thread... Apologies man!

But here is a Penn 500 Jigmaster.... this reel is.... 23 years old!! The old Bakelite spools are long since popped, been replaced with the aluminium ones....

Never realized Jigmasters came out in black. My first in 1968 was red as were all subsequent ones. If you can get it for R200.00 or under its a bargain. Cheapest tackle shop in Pretoria sells for R695 and tell me standard price is R795.
