I love Penn, grew up with them... and still buy them LOL.. that's from A to Z.... for Fresh to Salt Water... Deep Sea or Shore Angling, SO.... in a nutshell, as you said, you don't often fish, I will go for it, why fork out R 4000 and you only use the reel 5 times a year? These are testing times mate - Go for it and buy it. NB: Opinions may differ, and I am biased towards Penn... Have a lekka day!

Xmaster pro 30 is less than that and a great real, just make sure you service before use, clean out grease in bearings and AR and oil those and marine grease the rest, cals grease the drag, nice carbon washers standard with the reel but sticky out the box. I have the 10 and the 30 and enjoy fishing them, the 30 has landed crackers and gulleys and other fish that give a decent rev and is rock solid. I've landed leeries, katonkel, elf, grunts and cob on the little one.

Or else save and get a SL50sh or grandwave 40..Or wait for a good one to appear for sale second hand. One of my GW's I got second hand and in perfect nick around a grand..

Never heard of these reels, suppose simply cause I do more online tackle stores - and of course not living in SA - But I think a few weeks ago either on SL or UA, somebody mentioned these reels, and the one model is a near copy of the Shim SpeedMaster ? Might be mistaken - SpeedMasters - they are tuff ... Bought one circa 2000 - been thru the river - over the mountains - thru the Sahara x 2 - and still lasting. Doctor Halibut you have a link or pics of these Xmasters?

Pic is from Old salt..
I got one (30) on enigmas recommendation and enjoyed it so much I bought another (10), then the original 30 got stolen so I got another to replace it for under a grand with discount..which is waiting for line still, just had its first pre-use service. Great reel , for the price I can't fault it.. Super happy with mine.

30 and up have very nice high gear ratio 7.1:1 or something like that..the 10 has dog and AntiReverse bearing, I don't think the 30 has an AR but double sprung dog, not sure which other sizes have and AR.. If you look @ what comparative grinder you can buy for the same price these days and what you can catch with that and how long it will last, it is a joke! Where are other reviews, lots of these have been sold?

;)

Keith Murrison as far as I know had some hand in the development. It is a copy of the Speedmaster and possibly another with a few improvements, best would be to give him a call.
Not sure how much grease comes with the new reels, I would pre-service it before use, by doing that it could enhance the performance and extend the lifetime of the reel.

I see they have a 50 version of this reel with a massive 7:1:1 retrieve.
