Our first YF on the 12 mile

Small, but for me it's a start!

Ran to the 12 Mile bank off Struis on Monday - looking to get some bonnies for bait for the upcoming rock and surf interclubs.
Water was 20.8 degrees, but very little bird action. Only about 5 boats out there - we got a few bonnies, but things were very slow. Then trolled over a pinnacle coming up to 46m from 55m and said to the crew we should try for some bottomfish. Words had hardly left my mouth and the one reel went screaming - this was no bonnie! Yellowfin of +- 15 kilos.

Got another 4, all on that pinnacle, very happy with our first YF. They're small as far as YF go, but as I've said it's a start! Here's one of the crew very pleased with himself.
Now to get something above 50 KG!

2 on redhead X-Rap, one on brown squid behind a bird, and two on a Williamson popper.
Speaking to some of the other skippers afterwards they thought the better lures for the day were ones leaving smoke trails.

Meat neatly cut (loins and "wheels")and packed away - family has had tuna 2 nights in a row now.
One of the heads I've kept for a slide ...

Good stuff! that's where I'm at, also keen to get something in the monster class. Well done none the less. here that's about what we get off Durban when lucky.
