Old legendary Spoons or "Spinners"

..Lotsa great shape spoons here BUT also lots I wouldnt give you 2c for...hehehehe...that being said....some spoons that work in KZN....wouldnt do well here for some of our spots for kob , leeries,,,BUT on the other hand ..KZN has so many fast fish species that when they in a feeding frenzy and damn door handle would work!!!I am also a firm believer that certain shape spoons do well in certain types of working water...ie rough , calm , surge , sidewash .....and for a GO TO spoon for just about ANY fish would be a gentle S shape with a flat side and a slight V on the "up" side...these shape spoons push water and depending on weight and width will swim at varying depths.....
In any event ...ANY spoon to be effective ,,needs to swim(wobble) and not spin...spinners are those things they use for Bass......BUT...not to say a fish wont take a spinner...hehehehe...BUT..I would rather opt for the nice swimming spoon...

Lots of the quick DIY's were made purely out of a instant idea to make a lure out of nothing......theres no thought & or planning involved................purely cause I stumbled across n scrap piece of metal/object lying around...........there is no real time spent in shaping , sizing ,cutting nor rounding them off.........if it seems as if it can do the job , then its a done deal.

@Jaques,just as a matter of interest ,I suspect that this spoon which is pretty close to 90 grams will do just what you are looking for.Nice wobble at slow retrieve and can be worked anywhere in the water column by manipulating with rod tip-angle and retrieve-speed.
@Kenty ,(all tongue in cheek of course),from Richards Bay to Port Edward is roughly 300km with Durban about midway between the two. People often assume that if fish(spinning) comes out in ''KZN'' that it is all over KZN ,yet it may be interspersed and even 50 clicks apart, and possibly stay that way for a period of time..Most often as anywhere else do you have to work your arse off to join in the spoils.However I agree that what works fr one area very often don't always work for the next.
@Ben ,as ek jy is sal ek daai klein ABU nêrens vis waar ek nie weet ek kan hom kom haal op Spring-gety as hy dalk vassit nie. hehehe.

So waar wat jy daar sê Allan....jy slaan die spyker op sy kop.....dit gaan nie oor of hulle 2c werd is of nie maar hoe hard jy werk v jou "reward"....as dit werk is hulle "priceless"......& spesies se voer gewoontes verskil nie drasties v hier tot in die Kaap nie.....maar wel hul keuses van voorkeur op n spesifieke dag.....

If you guys don't mind, can I ask a quick question regarding eyes on spoons? Do they help? I know for some species they are almost essential, like speckled trout / weak fish on the East Coast of USA. They won't work on a spoon that you need to polish up but for stainless and painted spoons, why not?
Regarding normal line tying eyes- it is worth remembering that for some cast spoons with wire insert eyes, you can bend the eyes up or down to make the spoon work better at slower or faster speeds. Obviously if you can bend the whole spoon when you are on the water, that's better.

Hi guys I have a question re brass/ coper spoons-
I am averse to chemical smells anywhere near my terminal tackle, lures, spoons etc but the only what I know to polish up a brass spoon it brasso or something similar.
Is there another way that doesn't leave a smell? - short of rubbing the spoon in the sand

Its not about eyes on spoons only , its about eyes on the majority of your artificial lures that represent the genuine "thing" if I may call it.........be it a spoon, jerk bait or GT Ice Cream popper.
Lures in all their shapes & sizes are suppose to imitate a bait fish of some sort, so the more or closer it resembles the genuine "thing" the better the chances of a "take".......at least thats the thought or idea.
But that said , its also a personal choice , personal perception , & most lure junkies love to ad that "bling" of some sort to improve his chances of a big catch.
Besides looking dull , I suppose a well priced Rapala lure or GT Ice Cream popper just does look better with eyes than none....................we try think like fish to outsmart them
