Swimbaits, Diamond, Sandie, Bronzie or big Grey, small grey cost a rig or die so if i'm going to use it it's cut bait.

Will never use a Gulley or Raggie or Duckbill

I have swum Garrick and Pompano for big Blackfins and if the blackfin didn't chow it, it went onto the braai that same night.

I don't like the taste of Galjoen but I know a Bronzie loves it so I have used them but normally donate the Fillets to Dad who loves them.

Guys who have been catching really big kob all their lives in the Witsand's and even many of the hougham park gang will tell you that the most common whole fish in a big Kob's stomach is a small Kob, I slid a size kob off the swimming pool at Witsands and caught a 36kg Kob on a Double 10/0 trace on 200lbs steel.

I swam an 8kg Hammer and it drowned. I turned it into 14 fillets and a head bait. Caught 3 big rags on the head, Hooke 2 x Karel Groot Oog on the fillets, landed 2 Bronzies on the fillet, 5 Raggies on the fillets and a Grey.

This was a very productive bait and I saw about 15 yellowtail, 20 mackerel and a half dozen shad being used to catch the same amount of big fish, so the question begs to be asked, who did the biggest damage.

Have swum a 60kg Bronzie out of pure frustration after being taxed and not being able to catch smaller fish. The bronzie was taken before it even recovered and began swimming. He probably would have been eaten whether he was on a line or not.

I won't use anything as bait or swimbait that I myself won't eat. I've eaten skate wings, smoked barbel and Smoothound biltong (I love it)and even grilled sandie fillets

In January I caught a Grey on a Barbel, smashed his head broke the spikes and caught a grey, also lost a big bag on it and have seen Raggies caught off Robberg Point on Barbel, the only guy to get a pull, get's 3 pulls on Barbel he carried all the way to the point in his Cooler box.

The one grey that a local caught and kept to eat, he donated the head and i examined the stomach contents and found 3 whole barbel in it's stomach

Mmmmmm thinking now

Yip .

How i WISH a Bronze whaler Or Ragged-tooth Would tackle one of these foosh while inadvertently being hooked On My lekker Throw bait , off Klein Brak Mouth , which is where we believe it to be The barbel holy Grail- the source of every single Barbel in the country .........

Psalatrix , i didn't Know that . Interesting .  Surely the bronzie's there only , have developed a taste for them ...?

Just Funny Though , thinking about having a Barbel Out < compared to another bait . I reckon the Barbel Bait will sit Out there the Longest . it surely has to be The ugly Chick Of the classroom , when it comes to baits .........!!! Lolololol

In december, the barble were so wild, i got gatvol of rebaiting that I just left my slide out. 2 hours later click click zzzzzzzz. Lekker raggie pull, spat the barble out 5 min into the fight.

The barble was full of holes an shredmarks. (Pretty sure it was the day that i was fishing with burned-off)

So barbel definetly works I'm gonna give it a go

What about dorries they should be good too I've got a couple in the freezer

As far as chop shark bait the next ave smoothie is in trouble

I need to get a shimmie 50 or other big reel for swimbaits first I've got the rod to handle that

Sept and Oct White smash in PE is as a result of the over abundance of Dories as soon as the Dories disappear so do the GW, my theory anyway but for 3 years now the same pattern shows itself at this time of the year

pennekies haai! Na n barbel, die mees irriteerenste vis om te vang,

Lyk soos n klein vaalhaaitjie, maar hy het penne op sy vinne wat n lekker gat maak gewoonlik in jou arm of voet!

I love a big mullet and Shad mainly because they are naturally baitfish and they are tough. A Blacktail is however a favourite in many of my spots.
Don't write off a few Karanteen/Streepie turned inside out around a whole one.

I don't have an issue using Blacktail as they are so abundant here that there are sometimes aesier to catch than mullet or streepie and although they take long to grow they are prolific breeders.

A question about using shark fillets, especially sandshark and smaller sharks;
Do you skin the fillets?
The body of a sandshark or a little grey looks pretty boring, no blood and guts leaving a scent trail LOL

If I get a sandshark of under 2kg I cut the tail & "wings" off, rig a circle through the tail end and slide it as is.
If I get a bigger one I cut it in half and slide the head half first,
now I'm left with the tail half, should I skin it (an absolute pain!!)or just slide it skin and all?
