You said in a post:
"And yes, Cubans mags are very good. I actually magged one of my reels with a knobby mag. I fish a lot in onshore winds and find the line wrapping around the knob every second or so cast....with statics like Cubans....this doesn't happen."
As expect you realise the static mag you have is stronger than the knobby and may well be too strong. Try adding a thin extra magnet to the top of the one on the knobby (they are cheap on Ebay)or use a thicker oil in the bearings. This should fix it.
Good luck!

Hi Tim !
As you will see from the many pics of different models of the MAG-IT Magnetic Cast Control System, it is fully adjustable, by sliding the magnets inwards for higher and outwards for slower max spool speed.
In fact, the system is not actually "static" and I rather consider it to be a "hybrid", as you can adjust it from too slow, to too fast and everything in between, by moving the magnet(s) position and by adding or taking away magnet(s).
Some models like the Shimano Talica II, comes with a combination of thicker and thinner magnets, to make the system versatile and cater for a very wide range of different settings, covering all bases !
Feel free to contact me, if you need any more info.
Cheers !
