Hi Kitefisher !Cuban that Penn is an absolute beauty. Would you say the size is approximately that of a Trini-14/Torium-14.
8 seconds is a good (fairly safe) all-round starting point for most smaller reels. Just to quell the initial RPM's. I must just clarify that a reel that runs slow because of flaws on spindle or roughness inside the pinion(if the spindle is not free-floating),is not to be confused with a reel deliberately slowed down by either Magnets or oil,or both.
You obviously know that as you have the reel-tuning down pat.I am merely mentioning it for the sake of all readers.
That little Penn could probably run for minutes on end with cleaned dry bearings. The fun part then starts to get it under control for optimum use.
Hybrid ceramics or full ceramics may at the cost of some serious noise not even need lubrication, but it does lessen one's margin for error.
i.e adjustments on the magnet-slide must be very controlled
or the result may be undesirable.
If I scratch around in my man-cave I may still find some Penn 680 oil(could be older than 20 years) which can be used to stop a train.I am sure it will work for the Talica, as it works for Trini 40-50 size reels.
Cuban, please forgive me if I sound like a wise-ass.It is honestly not my intention.I did my ''apprenticeship'' on bearings, oils, magnets and centrifugal brakes many many years ago. Somehow this post rekindled a bit of lost interest in reel-tuning, which although still relatively young in South-Africa,is a dying art. What you do is an art, keep up the great work.Much respect.
