my old my snaps of fish caught I still need to scan in....something I've been meaning to do for some time. Perhaps when we say goodbye to NP...maybe we all post our best catches of fish caught on the the old graveyard pier.
swimbaiting is a bit of an art when u come to rigging the shark/fish. u have to ensure that the fish it kept as alive an frisky as possible, and by that I mean....the weight of the trace must not stres the fish so that it dies 10 meteres from the side. Although i have personally witnessed a guy throwing back a swimbait.....his leader knot barely leaving his tip eye....only to have 800m of line stripped clean from his reel (KP). The pickup literally at his feet.
a standard NP swim bait rig is 4 meters, 3 strands no. 6 piano wire. U twist the 3 strands to form a tight haywire twist (with the help from someone), the terminal end two 10/0's kendal mustards tied back to back.
also u never strike the fish when u have a pickup (indicted by a sudden rush of line while free spooling). other time u don't know u even hooked as the shark take, epecialy at 400meters out ,hardly produces a noticibaly take. So every know keep tension, what i do i simply lock my drag and hold my rod tip up with one hand. if the pull of the "fish" is that I no end up in the 'buckled' position with 2 hand now on the rod, chances are u re now hooked, followed by a steady whine on your reel as the fish takes line....
hell, now why am I sitting 600km' way....u got me homesick!
