for reels i was thinking abot mabe a spheros but have only seen a 3000 wich i think is a bit big

Ive gota Sensation PAssion Stick Heavy/fast and a Shimano slade 4000 and kingfisher 12lb braid. Had this setup for about a year and landed many fish including +- 5kg leerie and 4.5kg kingfish and snapper. Great setup, plenty backbone, smooth drag.

Have you ever thought of using the Tica Range?

this reel and rod combo is fantastic, its a an 8ft rod and 3000 reel and it kicks butt! loaded with 8lb - 12lb braid it casts a mile and I have caught a 12kg king fish of the boat with it so there is stopping power in the butt section and smooth as silk drag.

I see you want a 6ft rod but I think you would be better with something a little longer as your casting will be a lot better for of the boat as well as having a bit more play on the rod tip for fighting bigger fish on lighter tackle close to the boat?

set up cost me R1100.

if you want some more details drop me a PM.

thinking of a blue marlin i think that it is called a 'huricane' it is built on a t53 blank and looks great or a shimano crucial or clarus but going to go to the tackle shops later this week and check out the rods
