Hi guys

im not sure which reel to buy for shark fishing. i have a grandwave 50 that i use but i need a back up reel or the grandwave will be the back up.

the ones i had in mind were the saltist 50, torium 30, fin-nor 30.

or what other options can i look at.  (dont have money for saltiga, trinidad)

(i have heard good things about the fin-nor lately. do you have any experiance with it)

thanks in advance guys::tight:

All good reels if you ask me. I know it does not help but all three are capable of doing the job.

ha ha ha.:hyst: . thanks for the reply though. but which would you choose if it were up to you. i think that would be the better way of putting this question.

I have a Saltist 50, and it has served me well over the past 3 or 4 years. Personally i would go with the saltist. In saying that, i also heard good things about the Finnor, with upgraded washers. I cannot comment on it as i never used or seen one but i want one. My brother in law now uses a tourium 30 and he fishes competitively and he loves it. So there you have it.

thanks dude. my first option was the saltist and then people started filling my head with other ideas. thats why im asking the question.

i do not like they way the finnor looks(reminds me of the okuma)

just to see which reel gets the most support.

have you seen the new reel that perlon is bringing out im not sure if they have released it yet, but i saw this other guy who has a tackle shop, and he has his SA colours.he said is a great reel. (the only problem is its in the price range of the trini and saltiga)

If you are budget conscious relook at the Finnor - the 30OFC has more line capacity than the Torium and the Saltist and the finishes are in my mind a lot more durable.

i have heard that they get alot of line on them. have you got one.

i think for the price of the finnor i can get the reel and braid backing. for the price of the saltist.

Yip got one and put on a power handle that you can get from Whaler - lovely reel. bonus is that the new ones come standard woth Carbon washers.

I actually let a Torium 30 and 14 go for a Finnor 30 and 16 respectively.

Have splashed a little for my Trini 50 with power handle from Whaler - new baby!

SL50SH is my edibles reel (that in fairness gathers dust:))

oh ok, well it looks like im leaning more and more to the finnor.

how much roughly dose the power handle cost from whaler

will do. i spoke to a guy yesterday at a tackle shop and he said he as caught a raggie of 100kg+ on his and he said its awsome. he said he now has 3 of them and has got rid of his saltist's

Post elsewhere from Whaler - thing they are 160 or so. Nothing wrong with the stcok handle though very similar to the torium.

the stock handle on it dose feel ok. but i do need power handle's for my grandwave's. those handle's hurt your hand after a whole days fishing.

Then Whaler is your guy :) Drop him a PM and take a look at the locally fabricated knobs he recently had made - very nice!

the fin nor is a great reel. Have the torium and finnor, out the block the fin nor is just so simple. Casted it with a very "loose" spool and the sinker went a mile without any overwinds. The cranking power is also great.

What i have noticed tho with the torium and fin nor is that the torium is very "smooth" when retreiving line and maybe no feel as "strong" as the fin nor, but it is about the same, just the drag is much stronger.

hey damian. theo is fishing with the new maximus..its got a 6.6:1 gear ratio. its not made by perlon its brought in by them. also has machined frame like a saltiga etc. out of the 3 reels you looking at, id look at the finnor- 600m braid, 300m 0.55mm and carbontex drag washers and you set.apparently the new stock of finnor are supposed to have stronger handles..
