My pb carp mission

I’ve been fly fishing for carp for a number of years but my pb on fly is around the 8kg mark which I dearly want to break. I’m aiming for the 10kg mark! I decided this after yesterday when I hooked into a monster that ran me into some structure.

The waters I will be targeting are Sonstraal, Vygeboom, Protea valley, Doordekraal , Swart/liesbeek river and maybe some private waters. Are there any other municipal dams in Cape Town that holds carp of more than 10kg and will be fly fishable? Maybe the waterworks dams below Seekoeivlei?

Any tips or comments welcome!

ive caught a 12kg carp on fly at the outflow of zeekoevlei on baden powell drive, fish with a floating line drifting downcurrent, with bloodworm immitations, its like catching yellowfish on fly!!!

Sandvlei...one rod for carp and the other for leeries...that could be fun!

we latched on to some big carp in the 8 to 12kg range in Sewerage works dams 2 weeks ago , fishing alluvial fans when its raining hard produces good fish , not very pleasant , but get the fish on the go it seem they love the cold , and rainy condisions , most of the channels in and around there have good oppertuinities to wave a wand ....

just take care at coastal park sometimes theres some scally guys checking you out !

Toe 007 what flies do you use when fishing in those conditions. I know small bloodworm patterns work well in these dams, but when the water is murky do you rather use a Carp Fritzs or Zulu with bead head?

PM EERDER OOR DIE LOCATION VAN DIE DAM IN PROTEA HOOGTE! DAAR IS GROOT BABER EN DIE KURPERS VAT KLEIN ROOI VLIEGIES! ALMAL PAK DIT ALTYD TOE! BLERRIE LEKKER PLEKKIE!

lots of guys use them with great success , i have never fished them there , there are some type of worm in the water .

Depending on whats your tactix , we fished dropper ,if the water is rushing out at a pace , you need to get that fly down ,by the in out lets you will get most fish feeding  sight casting to visible feeding Carp , Capr fritz i have taken a few fish , buggers with beads in basicly any colour , the tungsten cones ,weights , theres a few variations on the Fritz i love to use , one that i had lots of succes on in those areas , are obvioulsy olive , with batch chain eyes with one or 2 strands of red flash wrapped around the body and tied off , another tip i can give you is to go a day or two after the rain , those areas you want to fish has got loads of bottles and plastic bags run off ect , and they can quikly spoil and good oppertuinity at a fish !

tight lines !:ifishin

Got two carp today of about 5kg each, one was a fat pre-spawn female which was probably a touch heavier than the other. Both took me into my backing, it seems the cold water gave them some extra vigour.::S

Lost a really nice fish after a 15min fight, as I was about to land it my hook broke, go figure...I was speaking fluent duckish! :fbash
