My new kick boat

Depends how hard the wind is blowing and how big the waves are - I would not like to stand in a Kayak with a 20km/h wind and 1 ft waves

I would prefer NOT going onto the water where crocs are present

Sorry bout the hi-jack!

Surely if the wind and waves pick up you sit down, and at that stage I would much rather be on a kayak than a kick-boat?:kaykak

The best thing about a pontoon kick boat is that I don't have to stop fishing to row around the dam. I fish on the move casting all the time while I am kicking. When I went a row boat/kayak I had to paddle then stow the oars and fish which I found a mission. This is why I went for the kick boat - far more baits in the water means more fish on the boat.

We had some bad winds on boskop A.K.A. " wind factory" last weekend where there were hectic waves with "wit Perdjies" the float tubes were so save, the guys were just bobbing up and down...the good thing about pontoons and float tubes are that you can use your feet to keep you at one spot while fishing with your hands when the wind is blowing, when you fish of a kayak.....when the wind starts blowing you need to use your hands to steer the oars and then you cant fish...and now you going to say: " thats why you have an anchor." well the time to deploy the anchor and maybe pull it up, a guy on a float tube has already cast a few times and has targeted more than one piece of structure...sorry but i must go with the pontoon, for BEST non motorised floating device, you can use a trolling motor, oars and your fins...

well, you can install your trolling motor to your kayak...

problem solved....

besides the stearing part, then you will need to install a rudder system (which mine already has).

I will be installing my trolling motor to my kayak sometime and see how it goes, iv seen it done and apparently works like a charm.

I currently use the anchor system for bass fishing - major disadvantage, limits you big time.

Will post pics once i have eventually rigged my yak out with the trolling motor in such a way that i can take it off for when i go to sea...

Watch this space in months to come (yea time is a factor, id rather be fishing that modifying the yak, lol so come winter, then il be doing lots on it.)

You guys make a very good point about having your hands free at all times. And this is a feature that will always make kick-boats be in demand. I have a peddling system on one of my kayaks, but the problem is that there is no reverse. Who manufactures those awsome blue kick-boats? What are the pontoons made out of? I attached a pic of a trolling motor that I attached to my kayak, although it works well it is still limiting in making small hands free adjustments.

one thing I don't like about either option is bass fishing while sitting down. I have a Fishing ski and even dropshot in the river is a headache when the wind is up and on a windless day a big lure actually pulls the ski around. You seldom seem to get an ideal situation when lure fishing from a ski. I have been looking into getting something better for bassing in farm dams and I must say that the argument for a kick boat is strong. You sit higher, your hands are free and it's very easy to transport!!!.

If rigged with an electric motor could you stand on a kick boat??

Thanks Ryan, a couple guys in town make rubber ducks. I'm going to chat to them about making pontoons and I'll do the frame as I desire. Will look at cost and decide. Thanks for the info provided by this thread::slr::

Nice one guys, that ski looks awesome with the trolling motor on...

@ Fluke here is a pic of my pontoon, i can stand on it with no problem it is very stable but you need to make a few modifications to it...but im actually converting my pontoon back to the way it was, the wind blows you around like crazy, because its so light, so fins in the water makes maneuverability so much easier.
