My home made lure....

Was a bit bored with catching fish here on normal lures so tried something different, took some different colored rope, used a stainless nut as a head and here is the result

Now you prob thinking, what the hell you going to catch with that mess, this was the first fish, a nice fat little big eye tuna

This was the result after around half an hours fishing, a Dorrie and some more Big eye's

Hi Dorado, been making those since plastic bags were made :-D  Even a black one (I hope the ratio B vs W is ok, I don't want to be branded a racist...).  It was even in the Stywe lyne once and they work quite well.

Became expensive to make since they charge you for these figgin plastic bags.  If condoms are still free I wonder if those glow-in-the-dark's would work well...

Not a single big eye tuna ! I actually made those for fresh water for catching baber, but take them with each time to sea with the intent... Never used them in the salt :-D but I will when my boat is ready. You forget I live an ocean away from real water.

If you change the colour scheme you will get other species on the same thing. The rope will also last a lot better than these plastic skirts you get.

to be honest, i will catch fish on anything here! The only prob i had with this lure is that the strands of rope get caught in the little teeth of the tuna and you have to rip it from the fish's mouth

I know that the polynesians used to catch marlin towing rope in the water without a hook in, the marlin would hit it with its bill and then get its bill tangled in the rope and they would then pull the malin in like that!

That problem can easily be resolved. The rope you used has some fine fibers or strands, looks like polyester or nylon. The fish teeth are not smooth, more like your shogan steak knives and that is what gets it stuck.

Toy shops sell a string that looks like a thin plastic piece of pipe, comes in all colours and is 2mm thick. It may do the trick.

Alernatively if one can shread plastic the strings may also work. The thickness of the plastic would determine the courseness.

Of course if nothing bites then you throw the ball of fine rope in again. Something will get stuck to it eventually, you could even bring the SAS Manthatisi up, that will be something :-D

Hi Mark, nope i have not tried again...... i regulary see them swimming around here and i have come to the conclusion that they are way to big for me to play around with, am yet to see a small one and have seen a couple that i recon are well over 300kg, so i just watch them!! I got a hiding from 3 of them already on my bungee last year......
