My First Yellow

Hey guys...

Well i told you that we are going to eende kuil...but Barend decided to go somewhere else, he had a better spot in mind and man was that a honey hole, and same as the bass fisherman...not alloud to give the areas name::respekt:(but i respect that) all i can say it was in the vaal...hehehe

got at Barends house at 05:00....And then we headed off to the
part of the river that we were going to target for the day...rigged up and Barend gave me a quick crash course in fly fishing....in 5min. time i had it...(until i got on the boat....hehehe...damn i was struggling...Barend caught the first fish for the day on a fly that he tied himself(type of dry fly) that weighed in over the 2kilos...not sure what the weight was, we went on and the yellows were so active, Barend Klapped another yellow, and this one weighed in at 3.1KG...at 13:00 my wrist was so sore...and i took a breather, watching Barend casting...and i realised something, dont ask me what but after that i started casting allot better...we moved to a spot and i casted...i yellow came up and i had the biggest fright of my life i striked it like it was a bass:hyst:..LOL...well like you flyers know, that is totally wrong and well we lost the fly and half of the leader...lol...I was so :censOFF, but then Barend told me about a guy that went out for the first time and missed stiked about 38 times before he caught the first fish!!!hehehehehe...but i was still guttered...i did about another 2 casts and was getting the fly allot further, another fish came and this time just missed the fly, we moved along and on my first cast the fish took and i was on!!!
Man what a feeling, allot different than Bass fishing i must say, but what a feeling, i was playing that fish easilly over 10 min.( that was maybe not nessacary)hehehe...Weighed in at 2.1kg not to bad for my first yellow on fly??

It started getting tough with the fish that was really spooky, and its very difficult to stay quiet on an ARK :pad::, with two guys and there kit...so we started, scouting around for fish, we spotted some nice fish and every first cast was or a bite or a fish on...Well the Bites was on my side and the fish on was on Barends side.

Then i missed another fish(oh by the way we were just fishing dry flies the whole day) and then Barend had another fish on and weighed in at 3kg.
Barend was hammering them.

We saw a fish feeding and it was massive, Barend told me that the way its feeding it cant be a small mouth, IT WAS A LARGE MOUTH...he casted too it...and the first cast the fish took the fly...IT WAS HUGE...But he missed him...the fish turned at the boat later on and we could saw that it was a largemouth at about 4KG...

At the end Barend Caught about 8 fish and had about 4 misses
Well me i caught one and had about 5 misses....but im sure it will go better next time!!
I dont have all the pics, but will post the other ones on Monday.
I just want to thank Barend for a great day out, is an awsome guy and knows his fly fishing.
Ive learned allot and got some respect for the fly fishers(my muscles are going to be so stiff tomorrow!!)

P.S. Ryan(barbel slayer) Dude you must have seen those monster barbels there!!!WOW....thats all i can say, have never seen such big barbels!!:fst:

Respect for catching your first yellow on dry. A lot of people flyfish for many years before they catch their first fish on dry.

...like me!

Congrats BL! Nice report. I feel more and more privileged for staying so near the vaal, but at the same time wished I'd started fishing years ago. My dad used to think I was crazy because I did not like fishing. Now i understand why?
