Should be possible for any good tool maker , but gee the cost will make it impossible !!!!

You may end up spending so much on one reel . That you could have bought a 100 new good reels !!!

I've heard of a guy who has done just that. But it is a copy of others of course.

I'll ask around for confirmation.

Hi Fritzabu

What would be the big cost items in making your own reel
Im honestly thinking in trying to build one just as an experiment and to see if it is do able but dont want to blow the bank on a wild goose chase

Hi Guys

The Swanell brothers actually build themselves a whole stack of reels, from Fly reels right up to huge lever drag reels that they used to catch 1000lb sharks off Cape StFrancis. So yes,if you are an extremely skilled toolmaker with lots of time on your hands,it is possible!

I found out who built his own reels.

Guy lives in Cape Town, Southern Subs. Apparently he was one of the first to do the one piece frames. That's about all I know for now. Will dig some more.

I'm sure here on Sealine will be someone who knows the guy. Tool builder by trade. Has some mean looking lathes in his garage.

This guy Errol Bowers is a master angler, he and Roger Kuiler showed us most of the tricks/skills that we know , Errol showed us the reels that he made, masterpieces on it's own, @ present he make use of the Shimano range, 'Trinidad/Toriums etc.' , he can cast a mile, showed us the way how to go about, I learn from him everyday, on a fishing trip you can assure yourself that he will get success, his very determined, always scouting for new gulleys/spots, never complacent to fish @ 1 spot, he told us that Uncle Hiema Gaidien was his mentor, just the name send shivers down your spine, I saw this Uncle Hiema already, many a angler could keep up with him...
