I am heading to Mozambique with a few mates at the end of the year on a budget. The furthest we are planning on going is Inhambane. Going to be doing shore dives and will be camping. Could you guys share some info on some good dive spots, places to stay, web links and general tips.
Too keen ::S

Ok, here's a few pointers: (1) Moz is not cheap, then again depending on your budget... (2) Inhambane, is a city and province, so where exactly are you going? I take it you will be doing Tofo or Barra, this area is filled up in December, so you will need to start doing your bookings soon. (3) Keep in mind Tofo/Barra is a scuba diver's dream. So I would suggest you dive near Tofinho (check a map)(4) Camping as in tenting is kind of limited (5) High Season, so rates for accommodation will be expensive. (6) Use the search tool on google, you will find lots of info.

Get insurance for an emergancy medical evacuation by helicopter- we had to make use of it the last time we were there- you can forget to get a suitable doctor/help there!

Huh?..... Surely it depends on the severity of the injury?

My brother had a stroke while on deepsea. The insurance isnt that expensive ill recommend anyone going there to get this insurance, accidents happen.

ok, sorry to hear, hope he's doing better? How long did you wait for the chopper? I am sure it will cost a fortune if one don't have insurane? I can assure you that there's lots of good clinics in Maputo, should someone require medical assistance near Maputo.

It happened 11h00 the morning and only managed to get the helicopter there at 4pm. I had to fight with them over the satelite phone to convince them its serious enough to send a chopper. We were at Chidenguelle. Even if I were in Maputo I wouldnt know where to take him.

Yes, I remember your post on the incident. Like I said there's quite a few tip top clinicas in Maputo. Perhaps I should post their contact details sometime.

I take it your brother is up and running again?

Chidenguele remains one of my best landbased fishing spots in Moz, due to the variety of species and different types of fishing available.

My brother is much better now but still has problems with balance and eyes and getting tired very quickly. Havent been back to work yet.

Serra the problem is people go on holiday to Moz and have no phone numbers for good clinics or doctors in Maputo. We phoned Maputo hospital but there was no answer- it was a public holiday..... you only realise how deep you are in trouble when someone gets injured. People are used to SA where you are only minutes away from a doctor.

Very true and wise words my friend. I am glad things are better with your brother. I will definately try and get the important numbers. If not... DO REMINDED ME NEXT WEEK PLEASE!!! As it will benefit the whole SL community! I am not home yet, so give me time....and hassle me till it's done.

The lodge, did not have any emergency contacts? One would think a lodge would have that type of "panic notes" who and what to call in the event of an emergency??

ill remind you. The lodge phoned all the doctors they knew but as it was a public holiday no one answered and the one doctor we could find was on vacation too far away.

Like i said the problem is holiday goers to Moz dont realise they need emergency numbers.

Serra Moz

Jake, you see unfortunately like most things in life, people will only want to use it when the emergency has happened. Perhaps tourism agenices Moz and SA's should include this numbers on flyers at the borderposts?

Very true Serra, at least we have the numbers on Sealine now for future reference, thank you, it can save someones life.

It's a pleasure! Reality, it might save someone's life in future. Will look for updated/new ones once I arrive back home.
