How about this?

Haha - guess what I am about to do tonight! I had exactly the same idea, want to make a lead version of the Gummy Flash or Onde Onda. White metal might be better but dont know where to get it. That said, not sure where to get lead either, scrapyard you said I think?

Also, for experimenting, can a plaster cast be used as a once off to make a final product to test? (i.e. can you pour lead into it?).

Also, how long do you leave the lead to set before opening the mold? Couple of minutes?

I got raped at the chemist, R27 per 500g of plaster of paris (Clicks didn't have), now I know better...

Hi nico,
You cant cast lead into the pop! I made a Onda onda last night as a test run with resin.
The lead you get from scrap yards. I got some last week for R10 per kg. Ask them for clean lead. By clean I meen not too many impurities in it. If there is some don't worry. Lead is very dense so all the crap including metal just floats to the top and you can scoop it off. The lead in the mould will set by the time you put the pot down.

Give us a shout if you need any help!

With 500g of pop you will make 4 moulds so it isn't the end of the world.

Looks like you do get a type of Gypsum that is good enough to cast white metal (lower melting point). Have a look at this thread:

We've been casting lead straight into the PoP moulds. They just need to be thick enough and very dry or they crack easily. Granted you only get about 10 or so castings out before they wear out. Going the alu route in the end is better i guess.

Hi Bennie

What make of resin is that?

Do you know where I can get clear hard plastic?

I got Liquid plastic from AMT but they are still a bit soft!

Please help

There is no resin in this process. The sinker mould is first made with Plaster of paris then cast in Aluminium.

You can get a Polyester resin from NCS Resins. It is a super clear casting resin, more brittle than the stuff from AMT but no vacuum chamber is required.

Product code: NCS 215

Hey taurack

I grew up in that area. We might still know each other.
Wembley ice rink and Hotrods, Hector Norris Park, Cycling track Wemmer pan?

Howzit mangi,
Thanks boet, don't stress..., that is what this thread is about.

I havn't made a grapnel sinker mould but I recon you could use the sinker as per the instructions. Then just drill the holes through the mould where you want the wires to go through. One wire would go beween the 2 halves of the mould and one at 90 gregrees through both halves. An idea, instead of removing the wires, cut them short. This will leave an impression of the wires so you know where to drill.

Cheers
Bennie

HI Bennie

for your graps you have to have your grapnel holes at 45 degrees to the centre (where your mould splits).

this is cause of your grooves in your sinker where your wire will clip in. these grooves will actually be bumps in your moulds.

if these bumps were on your split line you would have half a bump on each half of your mould. this would prevent you from getting your sinker out of your mould. without damaging the grooves on the sinker.
