monster usa bull shark (zambezi)

hey guys.  just wanted to post a pic of my biggest bull yet.  got her a few weeks ago and shes a beast of a fish.  ruffly around 9.6 foot  no idea on what she weight. 

got this fish on a 15lb sting ray kayaked out from the beach about 300yrds.  fight was great.  she swam off awsome to be caught another day.

Wow, Nice Zambie!! Was 9'6" Total or pre-caudal length? I'd assume Total looking at the pictures and considering that equates to 289cm!!

Saw this method of fishing on one of the fishing shows on Discovery channel.

Tackle used is almost always 80lb boat tackle. The bait is kayaked out from shore (in this case a 15lb ray). These guys have really nice setups - trucks with all the bells an whistles and rod holders, platforms, fighting chairs etc..all done from the beach. Something alog the lines of this:

Mighty impressive set up but hardly the challenge we set ourselves and is never going to work on most our coastline. It is however probably the only way of landing some of the monster Hammers and Tigers that these guys land.

Yeah, get back to fluke on the length, you can do calculations on that..

I've looked at some conversions on fishweights.net and it is definitely not PCL

PCL 230cm would be about 220KG and that's probably not too far off. It is not PCL of 289 because that is around 430kg!!! and that shark isn't.

yes total and when she was streight.  she wasent a happy fish on the beach.

as for tackle.  i will post all the specs on how we do it when i get home from work.   

also saw someone posted a pic of one of the goofy shark fishing trucks.  hahaha.   yes people do use them.  i do not and will never.   i hike all my gear just like you guys do.  i have built a back pack towing device for my kayak.   i will post pics.

yeah.  430kg would be like 900 somthing lbs.  theres no way that fish was that heavy.  just seeing and handleing the fish. i would say somewere in the 400 to 500 lbs  but closer to the 400 450 lb mark.  i have some other pix to post to show you the geirth of her.  it was rediculous how fat she was.

Really nice Bull there. The Pre-Caudal measurement is a measurement we make use of to get a weight estimation on Sharks..

Our Oceanographic Research Institute has through research, measurement vs actual weigh and extrapolation created a Weight to Length table.

The 220kg more or less that Fluke gave is then close to the 450lbs estimate you have.

Try the system available on http://www.fishweights.net/southafrica.aspx The measurement used is indicated per species ie in this case it would be in a straight line from the tip of the nose to the notch at the base of the tail. (in centimenters - ie Inches x 2.5)

ok well cant figur out how to make that last pic bigger.  heres a short video ov the fish. NOT FOR KIDS.   sorry about the language.  i was excited.  you will here me say its the same fish.  this is because i had hooked a good fish earlyer and it bit threw me cable leader. when i went to take the hook out of the fish there it was.  same fish.  oh and in the end she gives me a good smack in the %$^%.     awsome

The Zambies are incredibly broad, when I got mine I was still 10 - 15mtr from the shark and could not understand why the shark was so short considering it's girth. Once I saw it was a Zambie my smile was just as wide as it's smile ;)
