Was great to go back. In terms of fishing it wasn't so great. Got 5 smallies - nothing bigger than 2.5 kg all caught on homemade boilies. All caught in a period of 14 hours from just after 12am on Saturday morning to just before 2pm on Saturday afternoon. The bites went dead after that. Crabs were a bit of a menace. As mentioned we were at swim 4 - has the most shade. The guys at swim 1 caught some decent fish. Their biggest was a 9. something. Seems like we fished the nursery lol. Exclusively targeted the reeds. Any rods that were fished in the "old river bed" or areas showing carp jumping or topping had no takes. The water level is too low to fish the opposite bank reeds. For my next excursion here we'll try swim 1 - risking being burned to a crisp lol - to get into the bigger fish and then after that swim 5 in the "other" dam. There's some biggies patrolling that small piece of water as well.
As a matter of interest, has anyone caught any barbel or bass there before? Spoke with oom Pikkie and he seems to think there's massive barbel in there but I saw no signs of them. And with all the fishmeal boilies going in you'd think one would get a few whiskers inquiring. Also saw no signs of bass but have heard there are?
