Missing Person - Daniel Marais

Really sorry to post this here, but I'll try anything ...

My uncle, Daniel Marais, probably one of the best and most dedicated fisherman I've ever known has simply vanished from the face of the earth (last seen something like 10 years ago)

He lived in Cape Town for many many years, and it's also the last place he was ever seen. I can promise you that someone on this forum has spoken to him while fishing, cause this where he spent every free minute he had.

He first stayed in PE, then moved to Brackenfell Cape Town, and after that apparently to Kempton Park, and then missing ...

We can't find anything on his ID, no address, no licence, nothing, it's all just a dead end.

He has been listed as a missing person, records show that he did not leave the country (has been out but came back ... years ago), there is also a page on facebook and e-blockwatch is also helping http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8310023741

I don't want to put his ID number on the forum, but can say he was born 17 Oct 1957.

I don't have a nice photo of him, but here is a fairly older one

If you can spread the word I would really appreciate it

Thank You

Can you believe it,

after so many years of wondering, worrying, searching and never giving up my aunt gets a message on facebook.

Been missing for almost 20 years and now he's in the Philippines, just never had access to a PC to try and locate us.

May this year only get better

A question, what do you do if you have lost your ID and Passport while overseas ...

Find a south african embassy ASAP

They will sort you out, don't think it's an easy process, but you'll have to do what you'll have to do!

Glad he was found safe and sound. Bad that passport control couldnt pick up that he never returned.

He can get in contact with the nearest SA embassy in his area to arrange a new passport. Had to do the same in the UK before when I lost a passport. They could pick an SA citizen up on their system from what I remember, so didnt need any backup documents

I dont want to be a party pooper but please make 100% sure it is the person. There are allot of swindlers out there. Ask him a question only he will know the answer and you cant find the answer anywhere on Facebook.
But well done if it is him

LoL

My aunt phoned him, its him
At first we were all hesitant, we asked for a photo and details only he would know

We've had our fair share of people / impersonators that has asked for money before they give more detail

The last time I spoke to him I was 18 years old, now 19 years later we get a connection through facebook, but coming back isn't so easy, he's now got a family on that side.

I say knowing is better than not knowing.
I always said to my wife its sad, my mom is old and she's gonna die not knowing what happened to her brother, glad that is now out the way !

About "passport control", well they told us he's IN South Africa, shows u how good they are. Its a JOKE, because of them we always searched local only ... Useless Idiots

Don't have detail of how he ended up where he is, but time will tell

Great to hear you found him.
Not that I'm trying to defend our less than efficient authorities but if he no longer has his passport maybe someone else returned to SA using it? that would explain why passport control thought he was in SA.

Replacement passport not too much of an issue except for

Duplicate sets of finger prints, photos, old passport to be surrendered ( if lost, police report required) certified copy first page of id document required, certified birth  certificate, bunch of forms to fill and questions to be answered , ( parents DOB, id numbers etc required)   and then........one hell of a long wait. Could be up to 18 months.
Remember we're dealing with RSA officials in 2 countries.
Double trouble.
Pretoria has one speed, dead slow.

If passport and id document is lost after all the years it will be even tougher. A veritable

minefield. But the glass IS  half full!

It happened to a family member.

Good Luck.

and then...........

Patrick that was the UK not the Phillipines.

The authorities have  much higher priorities there than watching who is leaving when.

When you do leave late you will be tagged with a hefty fine for overstaying your visa.

Was talking about the process of getting a passport replaced (same process in any SA embassy whether UK or Phillipines) and why SA couldnt pick up that he hadnt returned, not whether the UK is watching if you have left or not.
