I regulary fish the spot that you are talking about 5 min walk from the fire station and is called the Vlei, from my ski and have caught a lot of Kob there, nice size Elf, White Stump and Hottentot. I fished there last 3 weeks ago just before i left home and got 5 Kob for the day! I have only just got into the Dropshot scene and tried there once, caught some nice White stump on the Cammo worm and one small Kob, but i have heard that there are a couple of guys that have caught quite a few kob there on the dropshot. It is however coming to the end of the season so things are dying down.

I was using the berkly cammo worms. I dont know what kind of minnows the other guys use but i have seen them and they are blue and silver with a very lifelike movement!

Morne,
best advice is experiment.
with the worm start a EXTREMELY slow retrieve, basically making sure there is minimal slack on your line.
with the minnow start with a slow retrieve and a jerk or two bouncing on the bottom.

If nothing happens experiment with different retrieves.

And as I always say, take a tjokka or 2 with, some days they want the real calamari ...
