Mike Bailey, a friend of old Bass fishing days and now a WP R&S Angler of Cape Town spent a week of fishing in Mazeppa under very trying circumstances. Huge seas and strong winds and made some absolutely stunning catches.
I just had to ask him if I could post the pics on his behalf (all 3 Blacktips are different fish and all 195 - 198cm)
The island was only fishable for 2 days and they landed a few Raggies and quite a few early evening kob.
Mike was stripped on his Trini 50 twice he then he fought a Zambi for 2 hours into the bay on the let and lost it when it rolled in the leader. Then they swam a 30kg grey and it was taken, hooked up for 20 minutes before the hooks pulled. The bite marks in the belly were 2cm+ across..........Sharpnose?
Most of the fishing was then done off of Boiling pot and if you look in the pics of the Raggie and Blacktips you will see a distant white spec where their car was parked. Those who know the area know that you have to climb up and over those hills and then run all the way to the end of the beach and pull the fish away from the Boiling Pot.......he did this 3 times in 4 hours, absolute respect for that
They landed many other Raggies and this huge diamond 2m+(hooked at boiling pot) and then landed all the way around the point back to cable rock.
