No fitters in KZN... cos we know how to cast
Seriously though, this looks like a brilliant way to gain confidence. Are these available in DIY kits, and can it readily be installed diy? I have a Trini 14 gold and Trini 30 gold that I would love to mag
The Trini Gold 14 and it's sibling Torium 14, have such limited internal space and practical clearance between frame/sideplates and spool, that an internal magbrake, would have extremely limited adjustibility and be some of a hit/mis affair.
Not totally impossible to do, but that big advantage of full adjustibility of the MAG-IT, to cater for different rod actions, lines, sinker weights and individual casting strokes, is one of the biggest reasons why so many anglers choose and prefer it and that will be lost.
In all fairness, with the combination of the small, relatively light spools of these two reels and their multi block, adjustible centrifugal cast control systems, most anglers find these reels very easy to cast.
A very simple trick I was taught in the early/mid 70's by an old timer at Dawidskraal, was to put a slightler thicker oil on the tips of the spoolshaft and in the bushes of the Penn Jigmaster 500's that most of us were using at the time, to control the spoolspeed, without overtightening the cast control knob and to get max distance with very little or no thumbing of the spool.
This works even better, when your reel is still too fast for you and you simply change the oil in the spoolbearings of even the fastest of today's reels as additional help to the cntfg system.
In the case of the larger Trini Gold 16/20/30, the centrifugal cast control system is removed and replaced with the MAG-IT. The larger 40/50 size Trinis, came without cntfg cast control, so lots if space to work with.
Very limited space to work with as well in the case of the 16/20/30, but just enough to get a multi-magnet unit fitted.
See pic below with two of the up to four possible magnets fitted.
