These are just demo videos and moving greasy bearings while making video is a messy business.

The grease is only really needed on final assembly prior to using the reel for fishing.

The grease has no function other than anti corrosion.

Actually theres grease all over them, I dont load my own reels with tons of grease, I dont wet my feet so reels always on dry ground.LOL

No fitters in KZN... cos we know how to cast

Seriously though, this looks like a brilliant way to gain confidence. Are these available in DIY kits, and can it readily be installed diy? I have a Trini 14 gold and Trini 30 gold that I would love to mag

I do a lot of Kits for Durban and Zululand guys..... We all know how to cast this really just helps with confidence especially if you are not casting every day and if you want to fish straight braid on a Multiplier.

Won't be available in DIY kits as not everyone has DIY sense and if installed inadequately could result in injury or serious reel damage.

Hi Craig. I was really just stirring a bit with my comment on the casting abilities...

I am definitely interested in this as I can see all the merits in magging a reel, whether you are a newbie or seasoned pro at casting these reels, and it goes without saying that it would add a safety component if you go the straight braid route.

Hi Andre !

Razor sharp comment about Kzn casters, but yes, Enigma is correct - I have done loads of reels for Kzn/Zland anglers and in particular, lots of Trini/Torium 50's and Talica 20/25 2-speeds for the guys targetting large sharks.

When the suitable person from Kzn, crosses my path, I will know and will then go through the process of transferring all the info, before shipping stock of my MAG-IT kits to them.

As the retrofitting is a specialised task and the set up and finetuning needs to be done in a very specific way, it is very important to me, to appoint a person with a very specific combination of technical and communication skills,
this to make sure that the angler choosing to fit my product, gets the best possible shot at max advantage of the benefits.

My first choice is to keep it within our Sealine community and so far, every single person involved, is a Sealiner.

Cheers and enjoy the pros of easier casting reels.

The Trini Gold 14 and it's sibling Torium 14, have such limited internal space and practical clearance between frame/sideplates and spool, that an internal magbrake, would have extremely limited adjustibility and be some of a hit/mis affair.

Not totally impossible to do, but that big advantage of full adjustibility of the MAG-IT, to cater for different rod actions, lines, sinker weights and individual casting strokes, is one of the biggest reasons why so many anglers choose and prefer it and that will be lost.

In all fairness, with the combination of the small, relatively light spools of these two reels and their multi block, adjustible centrifugal cast control systems, most anglers find these reels very easy to cast.

A very simple trick I was taught in the early/mid 70's by an old timer at Dawidskraal, was to put a slightler thicker oil on the tips of the spoolshaft and in the bushes of the Penn Jigmaster 500's that most of us were using at the time, to control the spoolspeed, without overtightening the cast control knob and to get max distance with very little or no thumbing of the spool.

This works even better, when your reel is still too fast for you and you simply change the oil in the spoolbearings of even the fastest of today's reels as additional help to the cntfg system.

In the case of the larger Trini Gold 16/20/30, the centrifugal cast control system is removed and replaced with the MAG-IT. The larger 40/50 size Trinis, came without cntfg cast control, so lots if space to work with.
Very limited space to work with as well in the case of the 16/20/30, but just enough to get a multi-magnet unit fitted.

See pic below with two of the up to four possible magnets fitted.

What is the plate made from? So it does have the possibility of corrosion? grease wont affect the magnets? A light spray of corrosion block , will that suffice?

A specially treated high Chromium steel which is magnetic (other than regular grades of stainless) It is a chromium containing corrosion resisting steel developed as an alternative material of construction where the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and fabrication requirements of other materials such as mild steel, galvanised or aluminized steel, aluminium or pre-painted steels are unsuitable.

It doesn't rust. Yes Corrosion X or Corrosion Block will suffice in your case as you do good and regular maintenance on your reels.

Im OCD!!!

Could you post a tutorial or operating instructions....:)

1. When I first get the reel, the magnet will be set to max. ( closest to center) ?
2. When I take it for first cast, do you loosen the cast control completely, with magnet at max setting, and then proceed from there to shift magnet, and reduce setting?
3. What would be your experience with the Trini 20 A settings, in what increments should I adjust the magnet(how strong is magnet) 1mm, 2mm or what would your recommendations be?
4. I throw 3-3.5oz plugs and spinners, would I have to adjust each time I change these weights?

That was really the  last Q's........maybe.............;)

1. When I first get the reel, the magnet will be set to max. ( closest to center)?

It will be set to your request. Each reel spins differently even the same brand and model.

Max is furthest out as more Alu travels past the magnet there

2. When I take it for first cast, do you loosen the cast control completely, with magnet at max setting, and then proceed from there to shift magnet, and reduce setting?

The cast control is loosened at all times as the purpose of the Mag-IT control is to eliminate friction control.

Wrap a 1m length of line around the spool to pull start it like an outboard and then time it's spin time. Max would equate to about 8sec, intermediate 12sec and accomplished caster 16sec.

For plugging and especially plugging with braid I would hazard a guess that 12sec would be a good starting point.

If you need more control then move the magnet outward, if it is already out to the max then add the 2nd magnet.

Max control is only used for absolute Newbies.

3. What would be your experience with the Trini 20 A settings, in what increments should I adjust the magnet(how strong is magnet) 1mm, 2mm or what would your recommendations be?

Total travel available is about 15mm so increments of 2-3mm will provide the fine tuning required.

4. I throw 3-3.5oz plugs and spinners, would I have to adjust each time I change these weights?

No not necessary

To be honest, I have not really tried casting with the 14 at all as it was used as part of my light jigging/soft plastics outfit offshore. Want to try using it for shore based plugging and scratching this winter. But the 30 will definitely benefit from magging!

So I finally managed to view the Youtube video, very well done Mark, now , this is the big one, I see you threw a reel filled with braid? if, what you are showing is the case, this could be a major game changer, being able to fill a multiplier with braid and cast it distances you would normally with mono, is a huge thing, for me anyway who tends to spin with a multiplier. What are your thoughts regarding this braid thing on multipliers, is it a go with MAG-IT fitted or would you not recommend it, Im not however too interested in surf casting, just basic spinning from the rocks.

Bamboeskollie has been plugging off Rooikrantz for 10 years with his own Mono Magged Grandwave 40's for 10 years already. Currently he has it filled with 80lbs 832. He has also fitted with a Anti Reverse mod..... Whole tutorial is here on Sealine

Trophy and I magged our SL30's 5 years ago and been fishing Braid with them ever since. Trophy has since moved on to his Trini 14 filled with Braid.

Cuban Cigar fishes almost exclusively with Braid on his Magg'd Tor14's

I regularly make rods for sole purpose of Braid fishing (Bait and or Plugging) with multipliers.

Long answer made short....... perfect for anglers who want to fish with braid as a mainline on a multiplier..... Over Mag the reel (slightly) and the braid never flairs in the cast and this allows you to cast 75-80lbs (0.37-0.41mm) as a mainline with FG Knotted Mono leader.

Ok, that is very enlightening news, I think the BG35H might have to have facelift....;).

I feel butterflies in my stomach now...:) Will investigate this, and look for suitable braid for this purpose.....Definate game changer for me.

Off topic, your recommendation on good casting braid, how is the HMP you have for that purpose?
