Loops & hooks for spoons?

Hi guys
I have spoons which i have made...i simply cannot make those wire loops with #4 wire to join singles.
So im looking for split rings that can take single hooks onto the spoons.
I find the eye of the singles is small and the appropriate split ring thickness gets hung up.
Ideas?

Have you tried nylon coated wire?

Loop them and then heat the loops together. this will melt the nylon coating onto each other and forms a very tight loop

I know exactly what you are talking about, the split ring goes through the eye of the spoon and then either bends or is to thick for the eye of the hook and the hook ends up 90deg to the spoon.

The split ring you must try and get is a forged s/s ring.

It is actually not round (the wire) but half round and the ends are inline with the ring.

Also try and get long line hooks for this, their eyes are a bigger dia.

That will sort your problem

Search for SIWASH hooks, thye have bigger eyes specifically for split rings to fit in them.

Gamakatsu Siwash, Owner Siwash etc.

Alternatively, Gamakatsu also make a Spinner bait trailer hook with an enlarged eye.

You should find all you need at the Kingfisher in Durban, the sales people will assist you. They are actual fishermen, unlike most of the sales people in Gauteng ;)
