petrol not diesel! ,unless u want to be in the garage every 7000-12000km for oil change . even if u do it urself trust me......... which i do.

Have a diesel love it but the service interval is 7000 bugger all milage for me its every 2 months . it frustrates me.

In the old days diesel was a cheaper option - look at the price of diesel now ? coupled with maintance the benifit of diesel versus petrol is a lost case for diesel any diesel car or bakkie , its a shame cause they have torque better than any petrol, more fuel efficient etc . However If ure a speed freak (bakkies only) forget about diesel. Have a colt 2.8tdi I love it great cab it chailas built solid looks great etc, but will never buy another ,sorry homie I know this hurts  I am victum of the deciet they made/or new about. I wish Colt had just been more upfront about the head issues. I had to replace mine it cost R26000,- . Its fixed now and now its great - but as they say oce bitten twice shy - Im going to have to drive the colt till the weels fall off but Im happy with it. Its Like a Harley wich also have it rattles shakes , does not stop fast enough , if u drop it need 3/4 guys to help pick it up but I love it . its a mans car. Colt is now paying for their stuff up - surley now they have sorted it out but should have recalled all those heads. Similar to Johson/Evenrude outboards , now they play catch up. "Im hoping the japs read this and sponsor a new truck????::S

Im going to hide away in my hole now and wait for the k@k.

This is not a benefit - Trust me
Specialized filling equipment needed (Only one operator with such in JHB at the moment)
LPG is not R5.10 / lt.
Try R 16/kg = R 9.25 / liter.

If you looking for something just for fishing and 4x4ing in general get yourself a Landrover Defender 110 bakkie style or even the older Series III Landies. Those things are unbeatable. If you travelling quite far distances to fish- 200km's or more I suggest the Defender, if it is for local use get a Series III- why?- Cause it looks cool and is pimping. ;)

The 4L V6 Navara is king in that range- I dont know if they make a 4x4 in the 4L though.

That sucks!

I sold my '99 Ford 2.5 TD DC 4x4 a month ago for R55K.

It was in excellent condition and the dealer at first said it was to old for him to sell on and was going to sell it out of hand to a private dealer.

He had it on his floor for just over two weeks...sold it in PE for R70K.

It would have made for a good buy!!

Hi. It is possible to get a good vehicle within your budget, but you need to take your time and don't buy on emotion. Follow the advice of others on this thread and have the vehicle checked out properly before you commit. I looked for over two years for a SFA (old shape hilux) but could not find a decent one, ended up buying a Colt clubcab for 75k, very neat, decent milage with service history and even though its petrol I get 10km/l (urban cycle, sticking to the speed limit).  As others have suggested, if you buying newish with low km, then diesel is probably the better option, if not stick to petrol.  The best advice is to take your time and you will find the right vehicle.

Hi guys go on the forums

landies- never ever absolute poo- oil leaks , overheating , my brother in law had 4 in a row now, finally he has seen the light - I have towed him back from as far as Breede in my colt on 4 occassions from various places including the latter . My dad has threatened me "buy a landie and i will shoot you" he meands it they are k@k sor guys, the newer ones maybey have sorted the problems out - memory recalls bmw dropped it , now owned by an Idian company - think they will be able to sort it out if bmw cant???? the truth hurts.

colt Ive said whats needed to be said about them being a colt owner.

Gass powered cars - are u mad.

one othe thing

if u plan on using the bakkie 4x4 then buy a 4x4 , otherwise a 2x4 will suffice with diff lock.

fuel consumption is drastically diffrent btween the two. My colt 2.8tdi gets 9.33l/100km very good - however the 4x4 version gets 14-16 km  do the sums boet.

Im also planning on buying a bakkie in the near future. Ill be going used, and was always planning on diesel, but from what has been said here it sounds like petrol is the way better option!!

Hi guys looking at buying a Ford Courier 2.5TD 4x4 Double Cab 1998, any particular problems/ potential problems with these vehicles

The vehicle belongs to a member of the family, well looked after, no rust etc, but would like to know of any potential problems that I can expect etc. The vehicle is spotless and the reason he is selling is that he doesn't use it anymore and the wife just needs something smaller and more economical....

Any comments?

you want my colt 2.8d/c just replaced the head again same with my last one but its paid for so a few thousnd every now and then is cheaper than a installment on a new one

I have one of these, Nissan Hardbody 2.7D, with Diff-Lock, I use it about 3 times a week to launch my duck, and all my launches are of the beach.  Never had a days trouble with it.  OK, in the beginning I got stuck once or twice, now I know the tricks involved.

Whatever you buy just make sure it's a Toyota, everthing else will just give you hassles, especially Colts....(run and hide)
