Looking for scratching rod

Hi guys I'm looking for a rod that I can use with one of my grinders to do some scratching. I was thinking about getting an 11ft.
I want to be able to cast a 3oz plus bait without holding back.
I was looking at the following rods:
Daiwa exceler 11,6" 3 piece
Loomis archipelago 11ft
I've never used any of these rods and have no idea of the capibilty, I've owned rods in the past that could not hold up to its casting weight and that's why I'd like to get some info from people who knows more about the rods, or owns one.
I will also consider any other rod the suits the application!
I would not really like to spend more than R1500.
Can't wait to hear the response!::slr::

Hi PV9

Shimano does make the Exage 110h in a spinning version and that is what I am using. Fantastic rod that is incredibly strong! Paired it with a Daiwa BG5000 and works perfect.

You can get them new at a shop for R2000.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks I just saw the post!
Foose how many oz do you cast with you rod?

Rod is very capable and I have used anything from scratching with a 2oz all the way up to a 7oz with a whole mullet in strong current :)

You wont find anything else like it with the same capabilities :)

Not familiar with the 12ft exage but I am aware that it is only rated 2-4oz.

I see this I the older version. Any idea if there is a difference in the blanks of the old and new one?

The version I have is the new version that I bought 1 year ago.
According to me blank is exactly the same and the casting weight of the old and the new versions are identical.

I have pulled incredibly hard with this rod before and has even landed a Bronzie close to 60kg without a sweat ;)

Thanks for the info Foose! Sound like the 110h is the way to go! Might just have consider changing the guide setup, not sure if the older version is braid frendly

Yes that would be a answer someone else can maybe help with.

I had mine leaning against the boat and climbed on only to have it fall over and hit the tar breaking 3 of the guides. Decided to go crazy and had Chuck Le Bron fit Fugi KWAGS to it and is now better than ever !

Hope you enjoy yours if you decide to go for it :)

awesome stuff!
the older blank is the better 1, they say its rated up to 9oz... but i have never tried it... i have it setup for grinder/braid fishing
you can through a plug or scratch with it, i use a 3-4oz sinker on the bricks when i scratch - awesome, strong light rod.

Yep both old and new rated to 250g that is basically 9oz :) Heaviest I have gone is a 8oz with a mackerel head and even then you can put everything into the cast without it breaking. Now They just need to start making it in a 12 ft already ;)

Out of interest, what did the guide conversion cost?

Hi TankEvans

Set of 8 Fugi Kwags was just over R600 and the labour was R600. I also had extra under binding done and a bionic finger fitted. Till death do us part with this rod :)
