Launched OPBC 14h15 yesterday afternoon, had quota by 15h00. Lead and baitfish on the drift. Fish were dik when we found them. Were one of three boats at whale rock, some of the boats that were at the slip when we launched had very little fish.

On the way to the island the few boats that were still coming back were full. Nice big fish as well.
Must say was lekker to get it dik again.

I was on the Old Snoek Grounds this morning, when the Fog lifted. Saw the fish on the 'Finder, but could not tempt them on the lead. Did not see the other boats landing the "100's" you mention.

Either they caught in the Fog, or the fish you speak of came from Groendam. A fair no of boats lying out there.

Hey Stanley, I spoke to commercials down at Millers in the afternoon.  In their own words, they messed around on Old Snoek Grounds in the morning and then heard the snoek was dik at Groendam.  When they arrived Danell had already 700 fish on board.  My friend had 138 fish on and some other boats loads more.  I opted just to crayfish and get some red roman so did not run around the point.

Had an absolute blast we came in after 3pm wanted to avoid the rush of the commecials at 2pm but when we got there ,theyd nicely blocked both lanes of the slip clean there boats for about 45min.What would the world be without theses people, boring i guess we need some sort of entertainment but dont let me generalise not all of them all like that. Its the minority which comment sense and decentsy eludes them. Now that i vented lekker.
Anyways had great day on the water it was purrfect.Oh was on a 16ft Kosi cat called snooz11.
Realy though i was on to a record snoek when i hooked a  gangster  sun fish.

great times on the water summer is here snoektime is here.

Anyone know if the Cape Point snoek is still around?

I have not heard anything from Cape Point, will go look tomorrow.  Are you going to sea?

I saw your boat is still at Anchor Boat today.  Everything ok?

Ja Georgy everything is finally sorted. Been a bit of a process with some snags on the way (no fault of Anchor Boat Shop who have been superb) but got the call from Dudley to come and fetch the boat tomorrow morning as everything is finally sorted. Now thats what I call a cool Christmas present...Pity the weather is looking so crap for a while now off the point

Was out on thursday morning too, radical fog, a few chokka in buffels and some very shy snoek around.

In my early snoeking days it was still pounds shillings and pence, daars.... two and six, or daars..... half kroon.

The Kalk Bay fishermen were still bidding in shillings and pence (can't remeber anything that went to a pound except maybe a redstump at Easter) years after the rest of the country went over to rands and cents.

BTW 2/6 or half kroon = 25 cents, and in those days vyftien bob (R1-50) would have been top price for a snoek, but then petrol was less than 5 cents a litre.

In 1991 I can still remember getting R1.80 a Snoek in Stompneus Bay, I caught 397 myself that day.

Last time I fished for Yellowtail at Struisbaai in the early 90's we got R4,50 / kg...

But then it only cost R70 to fill a 25l tank of petrol, now it cost R220. Looks like the Cape Docter is returning for a few days.

Tight Lines and a Merry Xmas to all the Sealine Manne      :::S

Even in my short lifetime I remember "Daaaars 18 bob" "Daars 18 and six"
The funniest one for me was when they got to R2.30/R2.35 and the lost the "six" part to describe the 5 cents addition to the price it sounded like this ... "Daars two titty, daars two titty, daars two titty five" LOL.

Oddly enough Bingo, the last time I fished Struis was the early 90's too with my own skiboat. There is a urban myth/legend, let me not spoil it, ask Rob Billimore.

BTTB, I even heard that the locals threw stones at your crew as they towed your boat past the location (Douglas and my late cousin Nicholas Billimore) out of pure jealousy ???????
