Was out at buffels today on a commercial boat and totally hammering the snoek, my tally 28 (lost 7 to seals) my buddies tally 12 and the boats tally +-700 juslikut did was lekker. The water was like a lake.

Saw quite a few boats further out to Point does anyone know how there catches where?

Tight lines

Ja-nee! Buffels was mooi Sondag!!

Nothing like a good couple of snoek on deck to satisfy the hunger for some fishing action.!::S

Thank you Snuggles for some awesome memories and a good many laughs.

The Junior Development programme was run out of Cape Boat this weekend past.

Young kids from all walks of life got a chance to put what they had been taught by the lecturers into practice the day before. The lecturers are all lighties themselves, so there's plenty energy and passion for what's going on. It was nice to watch my eldest Matt and my daughter Jacqueline teaching others what they know as they had been asked to lecture.

Saturday was lectures and a trip to the aquarium, movies and then ready for the big day!

Sunday...
The snuggles played along and these kids, many of whom were on the water for their first time and also fishing for the first time had a blast. It was chaos, I was the only adult on board and these guys wanted to catch them on rod, bait, spinner and handlines. Thankfully I had Jacqueline and Dylan on my boat. So help was on hand.

I worked my ass off but it was one of the best sea days I can remember. These little guys were super super stoked. My guys asked if we could stay out forever. That says it all to me.

Then...
My lightie Dylan won the weekend as top student and got some nice prizes for his efforts.

And then even better... the afternoon threw up a few yellotail at the groendam to top it off.

I know in the states they have a "take someone fishing thing" but taking a kide to sea and actually being lucky enough to find them some fish is a great jol.

Big ups for your efforts in all the things you've done recently HT, I really think more people should put in the effort you do in life, fishing and other people.

::S Thanks again guys for shareing the info with me.
The commercial guys have around 20 baitlines in between the 10 guys onboard. They have a lot of bait in the water. If you want to get the fish to your boat, cut up some bait and chum a bit. Works like a bomb! Even when they dissapear, chum for 1 min and they'll be back.
Hi

If you watch the commercials you will notice that they keep a slow and steady chum line going.

For every 2 baits that goes on the hook  one piece of fish is flicked over the side.

They seem to do it without thinking. As you point out, this means that there is always a bit of lok around the boat.

I call it buying my fish.
We take two 5kg pilchards and one 10kg pike to sea for our recreational trip.
The pilchards get cut into tiny pieces all the time. Every now and then we will chop up a bit of pike. But the baitlines get pike on them. Or pilchards, as there have been many trips of late where, because of the sheer volume of snoek and only being allowed 10 fish a man, the money for pike is not worth it.

In that case we take 3 x 5kg pilchards and use the one for baiting and the other 2 for lok.

But yesterday the good old bokstang had the little wannabes all excited.

Cool Ryan. Sounds like they had a jol! Must have been chaos with snoek flying over the gunnels and only 3 to break the necks. Damn, and the little buggers got into some tail too! Hows that for an introduction into fishing.
Hope you told them thats a bloody rare and special moment!

No no no.
The yellowatail happened after they got back at 12h00. The small fry were restricted to inside the bay. A few guys were just fortunate to be able to catch a lift for an afternoon spell.

I heard there were also tail at Rocky Bank and yellowfin in the deep.

ja, and i heard the sterretjies were flying in a anti clockwise direction with their starboard legs down, and when they do this the tail apparently preffer the noisy 2 strokes......or so i hear at least!

Hi Ryan, seems you've have the best time ever. Seeing my twins growing I can imagine that faces of the little ones on your boat catching snoek.

In a few years time l'll enrol my twins to your acadamy. Currently they are potty trained, but have not spoken a sentence of two words. They will be three just before Chirstmas and by then I'll learn them the ropes of crayfishing in Maasbaai and catching mullets in Struisbaai harbour.

Ja it was something to laugh at Lompies.
I was stupid, I forgot to take my video camera. Although how the hang I would have been able to film the buggers I don't know.

Hamco...
Cape Boat and Ski Boat club run this for juniors every year. When they a little older, bring them along. They get taught the andgling basics but also go to the aquarium and have lectures about responsible fishing and the idea of fishing for tomorrow is hopefully instilled in them.
They go through boat safety and just basics on as many aspects of what we love to do as a sport. All 3 of mine have been on it and without sounding like a real chop here (call it pride), all 3 have won it on the 3 out of 3 years I've had them go. But more importantly they all keep going back. So it must be entertaining and fun for them.
They also teach the kids to give back. So two of my 3 are now lecturing in it and have already said they'd love to do it again. Perhaps the young skelem will now lecture too after his top student award this year.

I'm just jealous because they win such lekker fishing rods and reels and other stuff...

Bring them as soon as you can...
