Hey guys, what time of day will be most productive dropshotting for leeries in zandvlei??

Anyone out there that does this on a regular basis? Would really appreciate some tips...:imnew::slr::

Hey steenie1 :welcomesea:

I do not know that area at all, sorry hey. One thing I do know is that here in Richards Bay the mornings is the best time to hunt those awesome fighters

I used to always believe that early mornings and late afternoons were the best there at sandvlei, that all went out the window a few years back...... i was in the area and had my rod with me, made a few casts with a spinner and hooked into a nice fish, a hour later and almost 1km up the drag i landed a Leerie of around 12kg! So, i recon that any time of the day, if the fish is there and hungry he will take!

Thanx guys.:clap12 I went out this morning(11:00 - 12:30). Worked an area of a couple of hundred metres. Threw drop shot Gulp baits and also a smallish white popper. Tried to find some deeper water because the seaweed hooks on the hook as soon as the lure touches water. Which tells me that either the weed is quite long, or the water level is too low. Do you still get hookups even if the mouth is closed???

I've given up on Zandvlei! :(

Spent a good few Sundays there with experienced fishermen. The only thing we have caught has been bad sunburn...

The only catches I've seen in the last 6 months have been with live-bait, but the problem is you can't use a throw net... So unless you have a boat/kayak (not been in with mine yet) you can't get to Leerie or even the mullet as the weed is too thick. Drop-shot needs to be under 1/4 ounce which is unlikely to get you into anything over the 1-2kg class. (If you are very lucky!)

Only possible solutions are surface poppers, spoons and lures (of which I have lost plenty) and we've had zero success.

I'd love an old local to show us all how one-day! Anyone? :)
