Hi guys

Can you please explain to me on how to tie a leader for general shark fishing with sliding trace?

You should use a hard, abrasion resistant leader like Maxima, or fluorocarbon if you can afford it, of .90 mm to 1.2 mm diameter, use approx 10 meters and then proceed as follows-make a Bimini knot in the reel line, and use the figure eight knot to knot the two lines together. Trim the knots closely to prevent damage to the rod eyes.

Did all the knots and got some 8ounce weights with serious wires, hope the wind calms tonight so that I can go look for the " big ones" tomorrow morning!

What is considered as a good/ bad wind here in KZN south coast?

Depending where and that size sharks you going to target makes a big difference on your tackle and traces.

In the Transkie recently we used 120/200lb plastic coated tied to our leader of 1mm Maxima.The length of the plastic coated varied but 1m should work in most cases.

If you are going to slide a bait a trick that is used is to attach about 1 M plastic coated onto your leader before your non return ring. This will help in preventing the tail of the shark from damaging your leader and possible breaking it before you land the big one.

When I'm into a smash i use the following knot to save some time. it is a very good knot and i have not experienced problems with it.

The follwing knot is used to tie on my hooks and swivels.

I also use it to tie my leader to the bemini or the spider knot, I leave out step 3 and only use two loops to make my knot smaller. The same knot that Hennie Papenfus is using. It works like a bomb.

Good old figure of 8.

With thicker mono (0.70 and up maybe) you can use 2 loops,

but for thin mono 3 is better!
