Stopped at the deli on the way home to get some ingredients for a seafood potjie…

2 Days before the end and a solid cold front moves in bringing heavy rain with it… I was a bit worried since I haven’t caught a grunter yet. This is normally first on my list when I go to Stilbaai, wtf?

Determined, I made a flask of coffee, packed the OBS and launched the dinghy. Hehehee, check out my beach umbrella canopy, ‘n boer maak ‘n plan ;)

I caught like a million little barbell, but no grunter, mmmm…

Got back cold and defeated by the river, had a long hot shower and made myself a monster omlette!

Unfortunately I came down with a fewer and flu by night time and my fishing missions came to an end. Even though I managed a lot of species, I somehow feel a bit down since I didn’t get a nice brag photo with a big edible this time round…

Great report!

Got some family in Stilbaai, go there quite often and definitely want to go look for a good Galjoen at Jongensfontein this winter.

Can you perhaps recomend any good spots for Gallies?

Thanks

You get the odd gallie at preekstoel... Morris Point may be better when you walk out on the ronde klippies to the far right on the low and scratch in the gullies around you as the rising tide pushes you back to shore. Though this spot might be over fished a bit, there are some nice braai facilities scattered around and ablution if you want to make a family day of it...?

I personally like taking a long walk between Stilbaai and Jongensfontein, equally good from either side, no particular spots, just cast there where it looks nice and keep moving around if you don't catch anything.

You can also walk right at Jongensfontein towards Heuningnesbaai... Lots of good looking holes for gallies that side.

Everyone raves about blombos being good for gallies, though I've been going to Stilbaai for years, I've never been to Blombos... Maybe someday soon!

Thanks man.
I think I have fished around Morris point before, but definitely want to take the walk from Jongensfontein to Stilbaai on that nice rocky stretch.
Proberly going to Stilbaai the end of the month.

Cheers

There's your problem right there...should have opted for Black Label to get the big one's biting! ;)

Thanks for sharing your experience. Very enjoyable read.
