More Kêrels!

By dam 1 was 2 Klein platties ( R 5 grootte) met bietjie rooi poeier ( red cloud) die in ding...dam 2 so 50 meter verder 'n kurperkop of karpkop...dam 3 so 10 meter verder honderlewer of rou rump steak ...dam 4 ook so 10 meter verder Ghielemientjies, sommer so 4 of 5 op 'n groot hoek ingeryg...dam 5 so 1km verder was platannas weer baas!

So ent verder was daar riooldamme/watersuiweringswerke.

By Lydenburg area was heel krappe weer die ding...

Personally I prefer a quality Loodkop, 90% of the fishingtrips I have gone on I have caught a barbel on a Loodkop:fishn

Hiya Guys!

A few years back I used a rig based on the specimen carp "snowman rig", I called it the "Dog pellet popup rig".

I also caught lots of barbel on this, especially in winter!

Tie a longshank hook about 1/0 to hookline, now take 8 -12 dogplellets, Epol/Dogmor, about 2 cm in diameter with the hole in the centre and thread them onto the hookline ( as shown in attached drawings to follow )

Take the tag end of the hookline and attach it to the mainline via a swivel.

contd....

Also use a sinker on the mainline to keep it down.

Just cast it out, it takes the pellets about 20-30 min to dissolve and break up,so you need to rebait, but it doesn't always lie that long!

It floats just above the bottom and as it get saturated it sinks and breaks up into pieces that float to the surface and spread on the bottom, making a nice "voerplek"!

You can tie this rig the night before and leave it on the rod, and go fishing the nex day, without the bait going bad or hard! You can basically transport your rod already baited up,saving time at the water!

You can also soak a bucket of pellets ( the same type ) in hot water overnight, mix this "pap stuff" with supercast dry feed ( instant mieliebomme ) or chuck it over the side of the boat, it calls the cats BIG TIME!

Regards

It works, we caught heaps of Barbel in the early 90's on this, and it is so simple!

I even caught a Carp at Nooitgedacht on this,on a 1/0 hook!

Greetings

I caught stacks of Barbel (albeit only smally ones) in the Breede River outside Robertson this weekend using Chicken Hearts. Once strung up I made a couple of slices to let the flavour out. Being a muscle, they are easy to get on the hook. I used a rig with a large hook to hold the bait in place & a second smaller hook to snag the fish. 100% success rate. I also used hair rig which I baited with a heart, but instead of using a boilie stop I threaded a second hook onto the hair to hold the heart in place. I will take a photo of the setup & post it later. This also worked like a charm & was what caught the biggest of the lot.

Interesting, I have tried sardines in a dam in newcastle for barbel with very little success. and i tried everything, whole, head with guts, belly, flapped, in this dam you cannot beat a carp head. i guess it depends on the area
what dam did you fish mate?

Exiled for life, sorry for the late reply, I fished chemlsford dam at sanford. I had the keys to the zones this was the best fishing area. I had a screaming pickup with a 1kg carp head there. Unfortunately i was about 200m from my rod when i go there it dropped the bait. left it there for the rest of the day the cat never returned. I see u in newcastle
