Hello miles , I am quiet interested in angling on a boat , especially at the baan as my uncle just bought a nice duck with a built in fish finder. Unfortunately he only git it a few weeks back and we have not yet gone out with it (I basically told him that there is no little fish at the baan now) , Can you perhaps give me some tips ? When is the best times for the baan ? I see those guys caught the elf 2 weeks ago !! Thats not bad. I know the area fairly well as I fished the shoreline for years but am a novice as far as boating are concern , what bait to u use ? etc etc.
Many Thanks
Hiya
Nice elf!!
Unfortunately, to target elf, you NEED A BOAT!! Well, actually, a fishing ski will work just as effectively. Most of the better fishing is to be had on the opposite shore of Langebaan. Elf up to 9kg's, kob of 5-20kg's, yellowtail and big white steenbras is quite common if you have access to a boat and know where to fish. For the REALLY insane anglers, young Thresher Sharks are also available!! A few years back, there was an attempt on the World Record Thresher Shark on 4kg line. The record was about 41kg's and if i recall correctly, these guys boated a 39kg and a 40kg Thresher.
As far as i'm concerned, Langebaan offers MUCH better fishing than the famous Breede River!! In season, we've caught PLENTY of big kob, 10kg-20kg+ at Spreeuwalle (its just pass Mykonos). My favourite spot how-ever, is at the opposite side of langebaan, where the Bouys are. Thats the furthest place you can go with your boat. Check on the picture....the OPPOSITE side....
