in a corrupt country where it can cost a bit of money to get to your destination without breaking any traffic/by laws i understand, but do not condone smuggling a bit of fish over the border.
i would think that going through the process of legally bringing some fish back to SA just opens yourself up to more corruption and red tape

for the record i smuggle a extra liter of brandy over the border every time i go ::S

@Sais what have you done for kreef and perlemoen poaching, @visteroris what have you done about rhino poaching. Nothing, the same as me. What has @Tsutsuma done, well where do I start.... Go look up Carlos Calvarho in Facebook and check out his page to see how involved he is in any matter from rhino poaching to dunes being flattend. Yes he have killed fish and probably a couple of animals, but he is good intelligent man who is always willing to help at anytime.
The thing is some guys have done wrong and made it public and still joked about getting away with it. Because of that a can of whoop ass is about to be released on us. All the comments made here and on facebook or any other social media site, has been seen by high ranking officials in Mozambiqque and published in their national newspapers. I'm sorry to say but we can kiss Moz goodbye.

I would suggest that everybody involved gives their sincerest apologies to the Mozambiquens and stop bragging how they bullshitted them. Show some respect. Lets stop raping another man's home. Rather go and enjoy it, have a couple of R&R's and get that 1 trophy fish ( of which there is more than enough for a couple of lifetimes ).

Very well said Eenvoet and respect and courage to Carlos.

IMO some of the posts by some guys on this thread are no different to the high-fiving of the thugs who killed the poor guy after the Sharks match.

seker maar lekker om al die vis af te neem, so amper soos n group hug ne.

dis moer snaaks dat julle die vorige dag se vis ook afneem. julle vries dit seker heel, sonder om skoon te maak.
wie worry nou oor n pens vol derms ne!

groete
daar!!!!!

For those trying to justify this pile of “recreationally” caught fish have a look at the picture attached.

Is there any difference? How is 26 or 200+kg of fish recreational fishing?
Trying to defend it and insulting the Mozambiquen trying to make a difference is even more embarrassing.

All you doing is making the spearfishing community look like a bunch of idiots who come to Mozambique, rape the fish and take them home hidden around our cars.

Please take a step back and look at the wider picture. You doing irreparably damage to the image of spearfishing.

I live close to the sea. often I see spear fishermen emerging from the sea with hauls of large fish, depleting the breeding stock. When they cannot get any fish you should see the amount of crayfish they plunder from the ocean without any respect for limits or the closed season. Even when Ezemvelo is alerted, by the time they get there, the culprits are gone. Nowadays I also see them diving off small boats when the sea is calm. One can only speculate what is going on there.

The ecosystem at the North Pier in Durban recovered magnificently during the years of construction. It took the blink of an eye for the spearos to pillage the pier clean.

Last month a pic was posted on another forum of a spear fisherman posing with a 50kg+ GT senselessly killed at the South pier. The discussion on the thread got so heated that the moderators deleted the thread.

My point is that it is not only in Moz that these guys are conducting themselves atrociously, they are hitting much closer to home.

This is not an emotive response, but a ban on spearfishing should be seriously considered. I know some people in high places - maybe I should start the ball rolling

@ Sakn - That kind of logic is ridiculous !! Its exactly the same as guns dont kill people, people kill people. Do you for one minute think that an individual who has no scruples and rapes the ocean with a speargun is not going to do it by rod and line if you take his speargun away from him ?

You outlined the problem in your post, the enforcement of the law is not done effectively. If Ezemvelo arrived on time and put this to book, it wouldnt happen again.

@sakn this is what your beloved fishermen are doing. Name 1 spearo that can shoot that amount of fish in a day. None! There is well over a 100000 that can catch that amount a day. Want to ban anything ban fishing.
Not attacking any fisherman, please don't take offence. Just making a statement to a uninformed man.

Like in any fishing sector it only takes a few to make all look bad.

Banning spearfishing not a solution to saving the fish stocks.

Ethical sustainable fishing is what is required- regardless of your chosen fishing method.
