This one of the reasons I stopped spearing.
I wish the water this side was more conducive to photography. So much more skill involved capturing quality fish by camera.

Its sad that this will lead to us all being harassed by officials eventually..... It's totally unacceptable to do this...... I really can't understand why one would need to shoot all these fish..... Half can't be eaten and the rest leaves way to much for the biggest of families......

I really take my hat off to someone that can hold his breath for 3 min etc..... But to simply shoot cause it is there is really terrible......

I feel sick wen I see someone posing with a 50 kg Kingie that he has shot and could vommit wen he poses In photo with 2 kingies......guys, they are not great eating and one can only eat so much fish..... I say this and I am all for a fish for supper and for 1 or 2 for your gillie and I bow hunt, shoot birds, and shoot with a gun.......but to simply kill cause u can......that is pathetic and you are damaging it for the future....our kids, grand kids and theirs......

Whoever you are, you should be disgraced with yourself......

janee, dis baie vis.

Bag limits in Moz according to the leaflet I have is 10 fish in total per person – some of the reef fish species have smaller limits but all fall within the 10 fish limit.

The arguments of it’s legal, spearing is a blood sport, sustainable way of fishing, fish didn’t go to waste, small compared to what the other guy caught etc. – you can apply any wish washy excuse you like to justify this.

However you can’t get away from the fact that when people carrying on like this it does the sport of spearfishing no favours.

At the end of the day it seems we our own worst enemy when it comes to generating bad PR for ourselves.

Taking photo’s of great piles of fish like the land hunters of the 1800’s seriously, what caveman itch are we trying to justify here?

Hi guys,

This mindset of Quota is not unusual even in South Africa. Here in th cape, many anglers and spearo's alike suffer from the "Koors" and often pull or shoot in a sort of blind frenzy. Often only waking up at a point to say... "Okes, how many fish do we have?" The answer to that question will probably make quite a few members of this site smile Wryly.

There are many on this site that are just itching to slate others at any opportunity. It is what it is. There's no way around that. In this instance, these individuals were spearo's posing in the pic and not anglers.

The old saying "Limit your bag and not bag your limit" is a good one. There are hundreds of spearo's that operate according to this but I'm not about to try and start a witch hunt if a few of them decide to shoot more than is necessary (while sticking to their legal limit). Ethics and preference etc. cannot be forced on anyone. If they were in their legal limit, then well done for stopping at their limit. The fish were obviously 'thick' that day and they cleaned up.

The big Couta is a magnificent spoil for a trip like that. Well done to the spearo on a great prize.

Still images only tell a story in that instance. Other than that we can just speculate.

Cheers,
L

We leave on Saturday for the same area so the timing of this whole debacle could not have been worse. The guys were within their limits and had a great day out, that being said, posting a pic with two spearos and a pile of 25 fish lying in front of them on public forums is cannon fodder for the environmentalists, morally I wouldnt go that route. You wont find a pic of the chinese trawlers who are decimating the area displaying their catch so proudly !
Packing in a jar of vaseline cause it feels like we headed for a cavity search based on some of the responses I've seen on the forums. ::cop:

The "PROUD" caption to this picture once again read like this :

"THIS IS WHAT HAPPEN WHEN YOU DISCOVER A NEW REEF"

Is that correct??
So me - a Mozambican Shoot this amount of Fish at Cape Vidal - or even less = post the picture and write on there :

"This is what happens when I Discover a new Reef"

What would the UP_ROAR be??
Why did they not target more Big Game Fish like the Fantastic CUDA they shot??
Why all this fish in this Day and Age??

Why when this picture was posted by yourself was the caption included stating :

Please guys you must remember that it is not our country to do as we please. There's a saying in Afrikaans: ons is besig om 'n lat vir ons eie gatte te pluk. Respect the laws and regulations of another country. Even more important respect the locals and what they stand for.
I don't know how many of you surf but if you surf a new spot the local has the right to every wave. Unfortunately the same in Mozam.

Dont come and state that they are incriminating themselves. Know that you are talking to someone that knows the law by heart. Incriminating ? You will need a lot worse crime, a lot more witnesses, and an active court case to get even the most basic grounds for a prosecution.

I'm not even going to begin with this despute because you will be like a child in my eyes, and I doubt that you have the background to even understand this complex meganism in law.
And if further useless slandering of someones reputation continues, there will be enough to actually take you on in a civil dispute in court. So I would advise you to stop your comments right now.

De minimus non curat lex - The law does not concern itself with trifles; - a principle of law, that even if a technical violation of a law appears to exist according to the letter of the law, if the effect is too small to be of consequence, the violation of the law will not be considered as a sufficient cause of action, whether in civil or criminal proceedings.
That same latin phrase could apply to your empty threats of a so-called civil case of slander against Tsutsuma( who by the way is a respected member on this site). You could also do well to show someone alot older than you some respect.
