Caught this decent looking Kob not too long ago at Wolfgat Nature Reserve. Not my PB but a nice size anyway. Was actually targeting Elf when I had a nice pickup and then I was on.

Hi Mike did you catch that Bellman on fish bait?

Thats right Dillon. You know how I am about bait presentation. I took a barely thawed out sardine, filleted it, then split that entire fillet down the length leaving a bait by using the fleshy part of the fillet near the dorsal fin. This leaves the fillet resembling an anchovy which was light enough to cast quite far yet substantial enough for fish to see as well as looking attractive.

Tivo, I actually went out on Saturday past and blanked out at three locations. I went to Strandfontein with wonderworm, red bait and white mussel hoping for Steenbras, galjoen or dassie. After three hours on the low tide, I moved up to the Pyp and tried for Kob using sardine fillets and also wonderworm and white mussel on my other rod for the odd bank vis that might be passing but blanked out there as well.

On the peak of the tide I moved down to the Fridge with the same set-up and entertained the bait fish quite a bit with my nicely presented sardine fillets. They must have found it quite appetising as my line was not in the water for more than 2 minutes and it was stripped bare, even the cotton was taken off with only a hint of aniible on the tip of the rod.

This weekend however looks promising with the South Easter that has been blowing consistently for the whole week it should cause  some discolouration of the water along the False Bay coast as well as a belt of warmer water forced to the surface similar to the up-welling that occurs on the West coast when the North wind blows.

Originally we were planning on going down to Kynsna or Gansbaai for the long weekend but too many guys dropped out so we canne dthe idea and will be attacking the False Bay coast more ferociously this weekend.

Hey Dillon, when last you have a back breaker? Wanna join us the weekend in a hunt for Red October as one of our fellow members so aptly named his excellent post not too long ago. Thinking of targeting the Fridge, Box 57 and the Pyp one day and if we blank then move over to the West Coast, Gaanzekraal, Derde Steen or Langebaan as a last resort. Let me know so that we can create another post for these guys to bicker about! LOL!

Hi Mike!Wolfgat is one of my favorite spots.

Nice, deep water, and conditions always look favorable, with good water colour.Got some nice Cob there.

I'd like to fish Wolgat more regularly, but Wolfgat's not safe to fish alone, nor is your car safe there.

Caught Joe at 12 noon, on right of beach, when facing water.Bait - Octopus leg!

Thats the spirit, Tivo! Let nothing keep you away from the water! Look on the bright side - If you dog has puppies while you are at the beach at least you will have some nice live bait to slide with! LOL! Hot dogs for fish!:spite

Walt, ever since they built the parking area and you cannot park so close to the beach anymore the regulars have stopped going to Wolfgat. It is an awseome spot but not so safe at night unless you are with a large group like Smith & Wesson and me! Nice fish you got there and when did you catch it, what bait did you use?

Caught November/December?Fished Chokka,Combos, etc, for about an hour.

Put 'Occie' leg on,and reckon Cobbie must've met the bait halfway through the cast in flight as Joe hit immediately and bent my rodstand which still needs alignment, lol.

And I've got mean 1,2 m rod stands with thicker spikes than normal.

Reckon it was Joe's lunch time-12 Noon exactly, midway through high and low tides.

I tried Wolfgat last Sunday Morning as there were other anglers there.

No problems, and also no fish. But had no Occie bait either!

Cheers!
