KOB

Caught this decent looking Kob not too long ago at Wolfgat Nature Reserve. Not my PB but a nice size anyway. Was actually targeting Elf when I had a nice pickup and then I was on.

I must admit that the pictures are deceiving. I am obviously not a very good photographer. At first glance it does look like a Bellman but notice the position and size of the pectoral fins and the tail fin. A bellmans back is more curved than a kob. Also the absence of the beard on the fish is also a factor. The mouth seems small as it is in a partly closed position. It definitely is a Kob guys! I have caught too many of this species to be confused.

I didn't know myself until the other guys pointed it out, but looking at the following picture of a belman, i would also say your catch is a belman

Mike if you still have the fish, you can go have a look and see if you can see a distinctive groath under the mouth of the fish that will confirm the spesie. Belman got as the name says a BELL under the fishes jaw. Nice fish there.:wfish

nice catch there, and tasty.

the one thing other than the ''bell'' under the mouth that shows me its a baardman/bellman , is the colour change to an almost black when its out the water for a while
