Klapped by GT

Just back from another trip to Inhaca, did a fair bit fishing with poppers and got klapped properly by a GT in the deep channel just off Portuguese island ... was a short one sided affair as my swivel opened up as per pic below .... happy that my knots and leader held .. more lessons learnt and time for much stauncher swivels ..

The swivel on right is type I have used successfully for sailies, tuna and cuta ... larger version on left could not handle approx a  1m GT

Mate those things are awesome. All your gear needs to be top notch quality. I was at Linene a few years back second cast of the trip a huge GT hit my popper and stripped ALL my line in one go. Next time I'll take a Stella 18000 with 80Ib braid..

Those clip Swivels have no place in GT fishing mate.... they are just not built to handle the kind of drag pressures and hits GT fishing offers... only way to go is Heavy Duty Swivel to heavy Duty Split ring to your popper/stickbait....

Alternatively instead of the Swivel, make use of a high quality Solid ring and Grommet set such as these:

Guys Pleeeeeese can u send me some tips for inhaca charters, will be up there at the end of april. I see its pring high on the 5th of may which should make it good. Any charter advice and spots PLEEEEEESE
