Katse Dam Trout

Hi All, Any advice on getting some wild rainbows at Katse Dam. The water is quite dirty from the rain, but I'm here for a while and hoping to try...
I have a small dingy to get around, but based at ha lejone near the northern tip. there is a trout aquacultaure setup here if you know the area
Any advice would be much appreciated

Hi popperdotcom - I fished the Malibamatsu river and the Peleneng tributery around Hlajoni extensively in 1989 during the building of the access roads by LTA Construction and Moolman Brothers,for the building of the Khatse dam.I stayed up there for almost a month in October and due to a spell of snow, sleet amd rain, also experienced the rivers coming down dirty and muddy! I had no choice but to improvise and tied some bucktail streamer flies with black bodies and tails and bright yellow bucktail wings on top. This did the trick on a fast sinking line and gave enough contrast between the black body and tail underneath and bright yellow wing on top to produce countless rainbow trout in the faster watert and very nice smallmouth yellows in the slowe water. This fly was later named the "Malibamatsu horrer" by those who saw its effectiveness - I have no doubt that it will produce for you in the dam as well! It is a very special place - enjoy !

Thank you great advice. Up here again now and I'm hoping to get some trout. Rivers are so dry, hardly trickling into the dam. Might try my luck where malimabatsu has a small rapid coming in (at footbridge). Or further up the dam perhaps from a boat. There are two boats here and the guys seem to be getting some trout and yellows.
