howzit going ragman yeah we were fishing at night from about 18h30 till 07h00 we were using chokka/sardine combo bait about 40lb line with steel trace, we were using between 6/0 and 10/0 hooks the time when we caught the most was when there was an incoming tide (At low tide) and then about an hour or 2 into high tide the unedible fishing is very good in the river mouth no sign of kob but there were a few garrick around...

We were originally fishing for kob so we had light traces with 5 o hooks and a running ball sinker with 6 foot rods and 4 kg line behing the leader. hence us losing so many. We used live mullet except for the big 1 which we used a grunter head which we had hooked in the kills. Also apoke to 2 guys at horns up who also caught a raggie. we were fishing at night. No kob on the live bait but my brother did catch 1 of 2.5 kg on prawn.  What have u guys been catching. Any kob?

Thanks for the info luke

I've been trying to catch kob in that area for the last i don't know how many years...maybe i"m just useless...we've been catching garrick, musselcracker(from shelley beach), plenty blue rays, bronze bream, steenbras, few shark species...I heard of someone who caught a large kob in the bushmans by the bridge but i have seriously struggled...

Dont worry. The kob in the river are scarce.Iv yet to catch 1 on live bait or fly!Where have u been catching the garrick and what did u catch the cracker on?

Overfishing has definitly had an effect on the kariega river.  My dad always tells me stories of his catches bout 20 years ago but thats the problem it was 20 years ago:? there are countless poor people fishing on that river and they will keep absolutely anything they catch...

that river has definitly undergone some changes...we caught the garrick up the river by the rock painted as a face, all on live mullet and one while fooling around with a rapala:cool:

The problem i seem to encounter the most is the peckers.  It will take me about 10 to 15 mins to prepare an exceptionally well presented bait just to see it torn to shreds...This is why i have adopted a new tactic of using as small a hook as possible otherwise you'll just be wasting bait...small fish are always better than no fish

I also hooked into a nice fish from the jetty with a rapala at night time was either a kob or a garrick not sure...but fishing from the jetty at night is an experience on it's own the surface action is unbelieveable...

we found a spot off the rocks at shelley beach and landed a good size mussel cracker on sand prawn, along with some bronze bream, blacktail and plenty others.  The problem with the spot was the cost! If you do decide to fish there bring a s$%t load of tackle cause you will lose plenty...

How long have you guys been fishing there for

my whole life. I live in pe and have a house at kenton. Its a pitty that the poor people bag all the juvenile fish and never return them 2 grow bigger. Do u live in kenton? Where is the "jetty"?

I live in johannesburg but I hope to be visiting kenton a lot more once i pass matrc(hopefully this year:addn)

When i say the jetty i mean that wooden plank supported by those barrels.  It 's that thing used by the boats to offload and load passengers right by the parking lot...

What time were you hooking the raggies in the river seeing as though kob hole is in the ski zone...must be challenging to fish there during the day with all the boats charging up and down...

maybe those raggies will sort those skiiers out:ssswim:

I'm sorry wasn't sure what you were asking::craz

I'm at Saint Davids Inanda in Sandton

Did you experience any problems when taking your boat out at those times if so please specify.  How often do you go to kenton and do you have any other secrets to share about the area... A fisherman told me about raggies in the far up river but I just never believed him:doh makes you wonder what other shark species there are there...
