It like hunting in the Serengeti - Wild as wild as places come !!
We were six anglers - close to 400 fish with 28 species.
We had wind every morning so could not get out to Spot X or to the other doggie areas - but had a ball with the GT, Groupers and other Travellie species.
Plenty of jigging and fishing live bonnies was the recipe's for a week of bend rods, aching backs and sore arms.
Alain Soulet - (the one guide and organizer from Tropical fishing) - gave us a warning the first evening that we might have some white flags coming out by day three.
Well, we had one after day two and another on the last day. Just cannot drop another jig or pull another fish.
The highlight of the trip must have been the Sailfish Robbie got +- 40kg, Bruce's 45 kg GT and me fighting a Black Marlin +- 350 - 400kg on a 9ft popping rod and a Stella 20 000 with 80lbs braid for more that four and a half hours. Not landing the fish as it got dark and with no lights had to travel back 40miles we decided to try and lift the fish with the boat. Line failure saw this beast go back to its belonging to fight another day. Another hour and it would have been mine ( I'll be back !! ).
This place is truly wild and untouched with so much to offer - we will be back for more popping and marlin fishing next time.
Thanks Marc - ( Ripplefisher) for putting us on Tropical Fishing and thanks Mark ( Tackle Whore ) for jigs - THEY WORK !!
Must say we were the first South African group that Tropical Fishing hosted in the last two and a half years that they have been going. Sure not the last.
