Interceptor 186 facelift

I arrived on Saturday the 16th, over the last days lots have been done and everything was a major rush and push for time to get the boat tested and maybe get some fishing in:

First off, it was a major rush to have the stickers printed as well as the cover measured and printed, I was in Joburg only for the day on the 14th, so I had to get all this done.

Waterworld were kind enough to have me put the cover on one of their 4 Stroke Mercs for the placements of the prints on the cover.

I unfortunately could not print the back decal '150' as there was a joint running down the centre of the cover, I will have to sew a piece of fabric to cover it and then print it on, with this time of the year it was impossible to have this done.

The rear Rockford Fosgate speakers are fitted to go with the rest of the Rockford Fosgate system, we wired the speakers in the rear to not run off the amp, they sound really good coming just from the head unit.

Next was the wiring and module planning for the fishfinder as well as all the various modules to incorporate the engine with the fishfinder.

We put in quite a put of effort to finish the wires off from the various ports where the enter and exit so that there are no open holes or channels, everything had finishing in mind as well as rigging.

It was a mission channeling the wires from back to front as most of the rigging pipes were all ready pretty much full with wires and cables.

We also fitted the ignition switch which was quite a task because of the little space behind it, the newer switch looks much better then the standard one, I opted for the DTS version which is also compatible with non DTS.

Also fitted, the stern saver for the transducer, everything on the transom is stuck on to prevent any water intrusion, only holes are the engine and the swim platforms.

The 5mm dash lights are also fitted on both sides and the look great, you really have to look to see that they are they are there, they do give just the right amount of light.

Fitted in the centre dash is the dual USB socket with the volt meter screen between the 2 ports.

Stickers on the trailer are also done as well as all the reflective tape.

We had a bit of trouble with the float switch as it was giving inconsistent readings on the Vessel view.

For one last strike, previous people that worked on the boat thought it well to just clip the wires on, that only was gonna last that long.

We soldered the wires on and got a reading but due to it's inconsistency we opted for a new float switch.

It was a bit of trail and error to get it to show the fuel level on the sounder but we got it sorted and it works great.

The channel for the roof wires was also made and covered with carpet, it looks really neat and it fits in well as a disguise with the cabin, I unfortunately dont have pics of the finished product but I will be sure to include it in the walk around video once done.

8MyX4Z3.jpg

We spent quite a bit of time finishing the cabin with the decorative rope to cover just about any joint possible, it came out really really good, unfortunately my hands were busy at this time as well with late finishes leading into the next job so no pictures to show unfortunately, once again this will all be covered by the end video.

I was lucky to get the bemini top made as the original fabricator had a problem with his machine, I will post more pics of it once its up. Its still a little floppy on certain parts but it will go back to have it tightened up.

I am also short on pics of the cushions and actually the whole interior, we went with a 2 tone carbon fiber and a very light grey, it came out so sick.

The trailer screens took longer than expected, they are busy with the template on them and they should be done for when I go back on 2 Jan.

OsNxJSR.jpg

So out off all these, the only 2 things left are the VIN punch on the trailer and the trailer screens.

So after a very long 9 months we can finally say that this project is complete, it came out really good.

We took the boat for a test Thursday 20 December. Everything works really well with 1 or 2 things needing minor adjustment.

The motor is an absolute dream, the shifting is super smooth as well as the throttle responsiveness.

I am so happy that I went with this particular sounder / Vesselview link option, there are loads of info available.

For now here are a couple of pics of the testing, I will do another write up after I have actually used the boat a bit.

I recall stumbling across this thread when it just started. You guys have put in some serious hours and decided to do things right and not cut any corners.

She looks a beaut. Here is to many many happy days on the water with plenty of fish!

Vertel ons dan sommer oor die vergelyk met die 200 VMax?

Prop pitch, size, stainless etc
Time to plane
Top speed
Hole shot etc

JQoVEwG.jpg

Y9WZgEj.jpg

Ek moet se, ek miss daai 2 stroke fumes!

Rebuild is finally complete!

What started out as a face lift with a few repairs turned out to be a 100% rebuild with a brand new custom finish which eventually led to a brand new Mercury 150 Pro XS 4 stroke.

Very happy and thankful to Timmy Louw for how this came out, boat is an absolute dream rig. Many Thanks to Ivan Terblanche at Sunset boats and Francois Human at Rutherford Marine for their excellent responsive service regarding Mercury.

Couple of pictures below with a complete walk around of the entire rig and a scenic edit on the Gamtoos river after the walk around.

10 month update in:

Boat is an absolute dream, engine is something else, almost scary power to a certain extent, engine is sitting on about 20 hours, it's seen plenty of fish, 1 or 2 very very rainy outings, been on the Swartkops, Sundays and Gamtoos river, very happy, we have made some changes:

Trailer
*Quite a big one but we found a crack on the neck of the
trailer, dont have a pic but that has been repaired and a brace has been fitted, this is mostly due to the elbow brake bouncing while trailering, we have now fitted bolts in stead of studs and all is good.
*Tail lights had to be complete replaced as they were crap, went with a local company and we have zero water intrusion.
*All trailer wiring has been done.
*Non skid started peeling off on the 1 step only which was really weird but all fixed.
*All registration stickers are removed from trailer and a small metal plates has been fabricated.
*New transom saver pole had to be made as the old one fell out during a launch.

Engine
*Changed from the flo Torq 2 hub kit to the Flo torq 4, shifting is now as quite as a whistle.
*Water fuel separator has been fitted.

Hull and deck
*Teak has been added on the centre dash.
*Teak has been replaced on the steering dash as the steering wheel peeled it away.
*Sounder software has been updated which changed the Vesselview display.
*Another Triple Scotty rod holder mount has been added on the opposite side of the windscreen railing adding 3 more rod storage options taking the
total to 10 Scotties on the boat.

So nothing major besides the trailer and these changes are sort of expected after a boat has been rebuild to almost a new spec.

Some videos and pics below of what we have been doing since the rebuild:
