Hey Critter

Pretty simply mate, basically rig yourself up some assist hooks, and then thread the rig onto the split ring or swivel on the rear end of the Jig head.

Then grab your plastic, and thread it carefully onto the hook, much like you would with an earth worm or something...
Be sure to check the length of your assist against the body of the plastic, so you know where to exit the hook point...

The beauty of this rig is that you retain the flexibilty of the plastic, while still being able to have the hook nice and far back in the body.

Here are a couple pics rigged on our JigStar Swivel Heads:

Top is rigged on a Gamakatsu Monster 7/0 Weedless hook, without the plastic.
The bottom is a 9" Sluggo rigged with a Gamakatsu Tuned 30 jigging hook on JigStar Kevlar Assist cord.

David - Sluggos and Fin-S are awesome, also worth getting some 4",6" or 8" plastic squid bodies as well... Similar to the Berkley Gulp ones, but you can get cheaper versions!

Paddle tails/Shad bodies work really well on these rigs too, as the lures hang straight up on the drop, and you get plenty of action outta the tail on the paddletails...

You gonna fish these on the RF and Ryoga?

Nah I've got some little 1/2 - 1oz jigheads for that combo plus some Lucanus. It can only jig up to 100g and on PE2 I don't want anything that's going to eat a 9" sluggo!

Prob going to fish it for doggies on my AMJ52EX and Stella 20K, PE6.. The 4oz should get to the bottom in 40-60m with little current, hopefully, what do you reckon? Failing that I've just got a Stealth so could get away with it on that.

Four weeks to go, seems like I've been talking about this for ages just want to be there now. No pirate sightings so all looking good.

David - You've seen the video of Pony smacking that 20 kilo plus Doggie on the JM 100 right? Do it!!! :)

Great thing about these heades over regular jigheads is that they sink MUCH faster as the plastic swings vertically on the fall rather than on a regular jighead which slows down the deeper it goes due to the drag on the plastic sitting off the side of the Jighead.

Should have no iddues with 4 oz in 40-60metres I reckon, and the soft tip of the AMj 52EX and PE6 should be perfect... be pretty fun on the Stealth too..... We've just got the Ocean Revolution Stealth STK's in.... what a weapon!! Can't wait to throw plastics and smaller poppers at Longfin this season with it!!

I'm sure you're itching to get out there man, still gutted I'm not gonna make it to join you guys....

David - Squids you could use the samll trolling squids, like these:
http://www.tackledirect.com/z-man-sof-teaz-squidz-trolling-lures.html

Not the skirt types obviously, but rather the actual squid body lures.
If you are gonna pic up some of these from Zman, check out their Elaztech Swimmer for paddle tails in 6 inch.
http://www.tackledirect.com/z-man-elaztech-swimmerz.html
The guy who invented these large Swivel Heads is a Kiwi based fellow who is the agent for Zman as well, and they slam the fish on the combo.

Best bet for Squids would be the Berkley Gulps in my opinion, as they have the added scent bonus, but they are pricey:
http://www.meltontackle.com/products/berkley-gulp-squid.html
The bonus is they go right up to 11"!!!

Of course they also come in all those great Berkley colour combos like Nuclear Chicken, Chart Pepper Neon, Suger Spice, New Penny, Amber Glow etc...

More toys my friend!! Dynamite rig though, check it out with a squid body attached on a worm hook:

These guys fish lizard bodies, Crawfish bodies, squid bodies, regular jerk shads... the works on these things, and slay the fish.

I'd fish them with worm hooks and smaller plastics on the RF/Ryoga at night, and then the big guns and Assist hooks on the AMJ for the Donkeys!

Phew and I thought my shopping list for Sey was done, now you open up a whole new can of worms!

I like the idea of a 2oz model to fish on the Ryoga/RF, got the Gamakatsu EWGs already and the plastics just not got the heads.. 20kg doggie with 200m of PE2? I'll try for sure but there's no following a fish in a 50' sailing cat!

Plus why is it all the things you want to fit into your weight restricted baggage are made of lead?

Kudos to Emirates for my 30kg limit!

Where can I source the 2oz sizes like the one in the pic?

::S We've had them for a couple months.... Still got a few in 2oz.....  We do them in 1oz, 1.5 oz and 2 oz...

I hear ya on the weight limits... but 30 kilos is a major bonus in extra allowance... SA to UK is still only 20 kilos!

Yeah man the Berkley Squids are PRICEY..... The 5 " are worth the month, but the 11" are crazy at that price... like you said, one Cuda and she's gone....

But I reckon they'd probably bring in a BUS grouper/Trout at night too....

I reckon a 15 or 20 kilo Doggie on PE 2 is defintely possible....

Have you seen the recent pics of those kids klapping 25 to 30 kilo Samsonfish in 4 metres of water with 30lb braid on Calcuttas.... I wanna see some pics of that RF bent like a pretzel man!!!

They also make them bloody nice with tassles and upto 150grams. The bigger ones are normally rigged with 2 assist hooks.

I'm going to tally up my current purchase list and see what I've got left. Can definately see a LOT of applications for those things..

You think you have everything then you start to read around a bit and then find you were so wrong and there's loads more you want...

Hi Nepps

Thanks a lot man!!! I have some pitch black 9" sluggos, and now I know how to send them down!!!!! Rigged like that you get all the intended action of the plastic, and you can use a decent hook! I like!!!!

guys rememder when this ball head falls any plastic trailer you are using will be above the weight next to the line , so you will def need a short piece of wire trace as you going to get bite offs. just rigged it with a 13/0 sport circle hook looks wicked ..... for that mommy grouper.
