hi guys

going to the mbolompo point in july mainly for rock and surf, but all this reading on how much fun dropshotting can be in gullies, i want to take some along, would like to hear what you guys think if one only could take one kind of dropshot?

i would get the lucky bucket of smaller ones in a mix and match variety jumble special sauce extravaganza, i think theyre about 3 inch, and then one packet of the 7 inch ones...

i find i hardly ever put a whole big one on, but the need does sometimes arise...

well iv never had 7inch ones before, but iv used whole 5 inches when chasing small kobies or snapper salmon and grunter. for the smaller fish like blacktail and what not i like to use smaller pieces because they arent as fussy...

you dont get as much action out of a tiny piece in a jig, so for bigger fishies i use bigger pieces. and grunter are so fussy that the lure really needs to be convincing, so action and smell is critical, whereas blacktail take not nearly as much effort to catch...

can you maby tel my what rod end reel combo you would use as i am new to this

Hey Reynard,

I'm certainly no expert as I'm also going to try drop-shot for the first time in June. After doing a bit of reading the rig I bought is the following:

8' Exceller Rod
Daiwa Exceller Plus 3000
Maxima 5.5 kg line
14kg Fluorocarbon (I really wanted 10kg but couldn't find any. The only brand I could find was Sufix, how do the rest of you rate this line?)
Berkley Nitro Jig-heads (there were a lot of imitations as well)
One big tub of Gulp Alive baits with the rechargeable soup and a selection of Gulp and Slam baits.

The setup cost quite a bit but I do believe in Buy quality and buy once.

WWF - nice setup bud, but you forgot the most important part of all... the braided line! Fireline instead of the Maxima will increase your success dramatically...
