im used to the old way of scraping off with knife and polishing with beer glass.
so the spoon finish was not such a worry as one keeps on scraping them.

I sand with various grip water paper then polish with Autosol.

I don't believe you can buy WM90 (white metal) for R60 pkg. Where did you get it?

got mine about 6 years back, a full 5kg for R300.

so its my white gold, stored in a safe place

the price of R60pkg six years back was steep, so R400pkg now eina!!

Always looking for better pricing. But some how I don't see it selling for under R250 a kilo.

Have you ever tried engineering shops?...solid bearings are made with white metal. I'm going to give them a try and see if that's a possible cheap source of tin.

Nice spoons Bennie, thanks for the show and tell.

I have made my molds as per your instructions and all went well. What I'm struggling with is placing the wires for the hooks to go on. If I use to small individual loops bent to size they often don't stay straight in the mold and show through the surface of the spoon. So I figured they must be joined to keep them from flopping about, but what a mission to bend the to loops the correct length for the mold!

Please could you share your method of placing/sizing the wires?

Stonefox - I'm sure Bennie will have a tried and tested method but I'm happy to share with you the method that works for me. You first need to make one perfect sample. If it's too difficult using the original wire then use something softer just to get the dimensions correct. Unless you're making a very long spoon then rather use one piece of wire. Now all you need to do is find a piece of timber and fasten two steel nails at the ends of your sample wire and that's it. Clamp this timber onto your workbench etc and you have a jig that works perfectly every time. I use a pair of vice grips to hold one end of the wire so that I could pull quite tight around the nails. I hope this makes sense?
