I must take my hat off for this show:dban:, it really appeals to me. i think that the producers of this show realised that what viewers want to see are the things and the type of fishing that most people do and enjoy so that we can learn from it. i must say, having watch petri wack those cob and garricks really puts me in the mood for estaury drop shotting, those ratfinks work superb! my personal opnion is that esa should be " extreme Shark angling". coz this is what they showing 90% of the time. not all of us target sharks, and not all of us have deep sea boats either.

I like the show as well. I struggle a bit with afrikaans, however it is good fun to watch.

Yeah its a good show for targeting edibles and they dont say woo hoo every 5 minutes.

Glad this show is brought up in a topic because I have questions about how they handle fish. Perhaps a member can set the record straight for me.

As i understand fish should be handled with wet hands always, no contact should be made against their eyes, and you shouldnt be putting your fingers into their gills to hold them up. I see this done with all the kob they catch and the fish caught are often dragged up the beach on the sand against their skin and eyes.

Am i wrong in thinking this is harmful to fish? Surely putting your fingers into their gills or wherever it is their fingers are going into damages delicate bristles. Can someone clear this up?

Watching the show for the first time this week, I was also surprised at the handling of the fish.  I understood that the surface on which the fish rests must be wet or resonably covered with water.  As for the fingers under the gill plates... well that would be a no no. 

But apart from handling the fish, Angola looks like the New Mozambique.

Tell me about it! I was checking that surf and wondering about launching a ski there... But it did look mighty rough. Must be awsome to camp on the beach there and fish 24/7. Nice size kob, and good to see them releasing them too.

Also read an article somewhere on Flamingo Tours who operate fishing expenditions there and their story was thick with tales of large leervis and kob. My mate who works as a charter pilot in Angola says the fishing is the bomb.

Magish, you keen to take some skis to Moz sometime? Its a long trek for us, but would be worth it. Wonder too if it not cheaper and easier to do one of Don Standers package trips.

Friends of ours did Angola about 3 years ago.... Says it is amazing.  They had to exit early though due to health issues revolving around fatigue.  The way the story goes, He got hooked into a Ray which kept him busy for 6 hours, until the line finally gave way with the fish in sight.  Baited up again and first touch of the water, hooked into another ray. 51/2 hours later he landed the beast.  Only to be rushed to Windhoek hospital the next day.  Doctors diagnosis - Fatigue.

According to him you can see the Garrick in the waves as they break.  Every cast produced fish, whether pulling a plug or a spoon the fish were on.

As for taking the ski's up well... I am unfortunately not going to be doing much travelling for a while.  I would have been great but I am going overseas in December and then building a house sometime next year, so saving is now the priority of the day.

Friends of mine went up about 3 weeks ago and by all accounts had a great time. Kob, elf, leeries & a 101Kg Bronzie.

yip Brendon the first seasons shows - mmm nothing exciting
but hey now i can delete them on the PVR and free up space lol
