The 8.65 Buttcat is a total new design and John Butt says it is an upgrade on the 8.4 Buttcat.

Hi there.

Just wanted to give you the accurate specs.

The old 28ft Butt Cat is 8.4m in length and has a beam of 2.9m. Closer to 27ft.

The new 28ft Butt Cat is 8.65m in length and has a beam of 3.1m. Real 28ft.

The boat has been widend by 200mm in the tunnel and by 250mm n the length.

Hey Murphy

Hayward Marine in Gordon's Bay does a good version of the butt cat, they get the hulls from John Butt and add their own cabin and finishes.
I am waiting on my boat which has an eta of 2nd week in Sept and is the 28ft which is 200mm wider and a bit longer than the std 28ft. The hull and deck have been specially made to be wider, while the walk around cabin remains the same.
This is to give you more space between the cabin and the gunnels when fighting a fish etc.
You can contact Brian Hayward on 021-845 4363

Hiya

Just some friendly advice. I had my previous butt-cat built by the above-mentioned agency and was EXTREMELY diss-appointed with the service and quality of workmanship. I'm not one who cares much for fancy finishes, but the end result i received was PATHETIC.

ALL of the Butt-cat owners, whom i've spoken to, who had their vessels built by the above-mentioned agency, have also been EXTREMELY dis-satisfied with the service and quality they received.

I'll not bore you with the HORROR stories that i endured, but would just like to caution ther anglers. Speak to some butt-cat boat owners, who had their vessels finished by the above-mentioned agency and hear for yourself what the general consensus is!!

travers, i'd seriously suggest that you take the boat out for some trial runs and get EVERTHING and i MEAN everything completed to your liking/spec's BEFORE making your final payment.

Hi Miles

Thanks for the advice, I plan to do exactly that, I have already requested a few changes which i want implemented after testing the first wider boat off their production line.

Grant, I havnt been down to my cottage for ages (aug. Weather been tterrible and work hectic. There is a new but cat here in EL I saw last week having stainless done on her with a modiiefied live well like mine. Live well is smaller and I would not recomend that, but i will try to go past and take a few pics for you today at lunch time.
Ask john if he cant just put one on your boat for you when he builds it as he has the mould already.
