You guys are 'spot-on'... A few layers of paint or epoxy or even resin would have made the world of difference and would have allowed the final product to have a sheen/shine.... With plastisol that makes a massive difference... The colour changes and reflects differently based on where it is and how it 'shows'...

I can't take much credit, I saw a guy coat his molds like that on YouTube. He used that double barrel syringe type resin/epoxy. The lures came out really shiny and smooth!

I've been watching a few videos, I'm keen to try make a basic mold for a bass worm. If it comes out nice, I might be tempted to get some Plastisol and try it. I figure at Hazelmere even a really bad lure will get a bass!

Actually, a better way might be to use paint. You will loose less detail this way.

Drill a 1,6mm hole in the end of the plug then glue a short piece of 1,6mm wire into it. Then put it in a cordless drill and paint while rotating. Use a cable tie to hold the trigger so the drill is just turning. Shouldn't take long for the paint to have set well enough  to stop. Repeat till smooth. By using the drill, you can put decent layers of paint on that will fill nicely.

Tip: Coat wood plug with thinned sanding sealer before starting with paint.

I'm going to make a simple 8" tail for tuna. I found a stick that resembles a drum stick. Sanded it and now I'll add some paint then make a simple mould. I'd be surprised if it takes me half an hour in total man hours to make.
