Howzit guys!

Me and a few friends of mine want to organise a winter boys fishing trip. It's between Boschkop , Steyns and Tago. Still need to make up our minds.

I've heard that with climate change ext. fish feel it on or something. So when will be a good time to go fish now in the winter and how long should we wait after the cold front?

Any advice on when and what to use will be exellent thanks.

From what I have read, it is good to have at least 3 to 5 days consistant weather. And then you have to check water and air temperature to determine the depth at which you want to fish at.

What fish will you be targeting?

You can try garlic and almond.
I am fishing at cilliers and will be testing out garlic-, cinnamon- and chillie powders.

You can also try smaller hook-baits. A nr 1 Daichi hook with a small floatie and very small dough backing (the size of a rice kernel). It should look like a small piece of your ground-bait. Try changing the color as well. Red always works well at the Vaaldam.

Thanks. I'll definitly keep that in mind. Does flourecent also work well? Where do I use the chillie powders? In my "bomb"?

Don't know about the powders yet, will try different combos this weekend. I will be trying them in my dough as well as my bomb.

I don't use flourecene... but I do sometimes dip my whole rig into custard powder. Makes a nice cloud in the water and keeps the dips from washing away before hitting the bottom.

Ok cool. I'll also experiment a bit and hopefully find something that works. I've got a "deep heat" (that's what it smells like) powder , but haven't had much luck on it.

Deep Heat? If I may ask, where did you get this powder? The smell is called Wintergreen (Stattafords dip by Supercast). Wintergreen is plant found in America and it was used by the Natives as an ointment.

Try to use just a small amount at a time. Rather too little than too much.

So we did a session today from 7:30 till 17:00 at cilliers(vaaldam). Made a garlic dough and a cinnamon dough. Got fish from about 12:30 on plain floats with dough(either one worked) with onion and molasses on the bomb. Vicks and looti with perdeby on the bomb also worked for the other guys. I got 6 carp and 1 grasscarp all under 1 kg.

Checked the weather on weather.24.com, seems to be good fishing weather for this weekend, me also going to Kollege Plaas vaal this weekend, you should try using Snotties with dough backing but mix your dough with a teaspoon of something with mint in it, i use Mint food flavouring, it seems to work wonders as i have been told.

so how did the weekend go ?
Did a bit of fishing in the vaal this weekend

Results 5 carp 3-5 kg plain yellow floaties no backing
dip duiwels drek + almond on the ball and florosien

8 carp 500g - 3kg plain yellow floaties dip banjo ans tjop tjop(pineapple)

my friend caught a nice 8.3kg mirror carp on a tigernut stuttoford

Howzit

Was at Kollegeplaas this weekend on the vaal Caught 6 Carps and 2 Mirrors smallest 2kg biggest 6.5kg on Almond Floaties and garlic dip with sweet dough backing.

Lost quite a few fish. Funny that all the fish i caught was only in the freezing night none during the day what so ever any reason maybe why. Will post pics of one fish as the photos came out crap at night so i took one in the day

Ek is alweer oppad koppies toe die naweek. Hopelik gaan als goed.
